Lily took a step back to avoid Mike's touch and scrutinized him.
Unexpectedly, he had prepared himself. Lily’s plan to infiltrate the research institute had failed.

I don't have to break in! The best hostage is in my hands right now," she said, looking at him intensely.
Mike, who was panting, raised his head to look at her when he heard this. He burst into laughter when
he noticed that she was staring at him like he was prey.
"You're going to take me as a hostage?" He read her mind at a glance. Shaking his head, he continued,
"First, you need to know that a hostage is only a hostage if you know you can get what you want with
them.
Otherwise, you're holding me captive for nothing."
"Why not? You provide them with the funds. I don't believe they can continue if I cut off the main chain!"
Lily felt that he was just making an excuse.
"Didn't Mr. Russell provide money in the beginning as well? Did the experiment stop once he
withdrew?" Mike questioned back.
Lily did not answer for a while.
"That's because you joined in and funded them!"
He nodded. "That's right. So what if you hold me hostage or kill me? Do you think they'll stop? You
have no idea. This lab is just a cover-up. Although it looks like the most menacing thing right now, there
are darker things you don't know about."
With that, silence hung in the air.
Lily was confused by Mike's words.
'Were they committing a crime? Wouldn't this mean Mike has admitted to being a part of it?1
