Chapter 1619

Lily poured herself a glass of water and got hold of herself after gulping half of it down. She took a deep

breath, still haunted by the nightmare scenes. She understood that the virus would affect everyone

even if it did not turn people into monsters.

Take the situation in Burnkwen, for example. The pandemic was severe, and the governments there

had implemented lockdowns in different areas to stop its spread but to no avail. Sometimes they don't

even know how it happened.

'We have detected and contained the cases early, but who knows if it'll worsen? Furthermore, finding a

cure is tough since everyone responds differently to the virus.'

Lily no longer felt sleepy as she massaged her temples. Still, her heart sank as she thought about

those tormented by the virus. She got dressed, left her room, and went to where the patients stayed.

She did not go in and stood outside the seemingly stifling partitioned room, where she watched for a

moment. The little girl was awake, sitting on the bed. She was not on the drip and was playing with a

Barbie doll. Dr. Morris said her mother had given it to her.

However, from the little girl's expression, Lily could tell she was happy. The little girl looked pretty and

adorable, with her face smiling and her eyes beaming. Lily curled her lips into a smile despite herself as

she stood outside the door.

Suddenly, the little girl looked up and saw Lily standing outside. Surprised, the little girl let out a grin

and waved. Lily waved back, then pushed open the door and entered.

"Doctor..."

"Just call me Lily." She corrected the little girl.

"You're so pretty, Lily.” The little girl revealed a sweet smile that melted Lily's heart. However, the next

second, the girl knitted her brow and started to cough.

Lily was worried. "Are you feeling unwell?"

The little girl coughed a few times, patted her chest, and smiled at Lily. "It's okay. I feel better after I

cough a couple of times."

"Debbie," Lily remembered reading her name on the file. "Is Debbie your name?"

"Yes." The little girl nodded obediently and blinked her big eyes. "Lily, do you think I will live? Will I be

able to leave this place?"

Her innocent question saddened Lily. She smiled casually, sat by the bed, and caressed the little girl's

hair. "Don't be silly! Of course, you'll live. You're only sick and can get home when you’re well."

Debbie's smile froze at the mention of the word "home," and she frowned." l-l don't have a home."

"How can you not have a home? Everyone has a home. Even though your mommy is no longer

around, what about your daddy? And grandpas and grandmas?" Lily realized there was no such record

in the little girl's file, and even though she had lived here for a while, no one had called to ask how she

was doing, not to mention attempting to visit her.

Debbie looked pitiful as she shook her head and knitted her thin eyebrows.
