Chapter 187

When Bailey saw that Artemis was stunned by her words, she bent her knee and positioned it below

his waist.

It's easy to make you impotent, Artemis. I just need to boot you right here.

Bailey thought Artemis would let her free and retreat, but the man was way more insufferable than she

imagined.

“I know what you're trying to do, Ms. Bailey.”

“What do you think? You'd better scram before anything happens.”

Artemis smirked, and gleams of cunningness shone in his eyes. “How about we make a bet, Ms.

Bailey? You can try that, but I'll still be able to make you pregnant.”

Bailey suddenly felt like a deflated balloon.

He's right. Men with erectile dysfunction can still make women pregnant, given how advanced things

are nowadays.

“Fine. I surrender. I won't agree with Edmund's proposal for now. You just want me to play along with

you, right? Fine. I'll do what you want until you get tired of it.”

Artemis patted the woman's cheek and smiled with his brows quirked. “Well, I might get tired of other

women in days, but you're different, Ms. Jefferson. I've never done so much for a woman before. Since

I've already made up my mind, there's no way you're escaping my grip your entire life.”

Bailey moved her face aside and evaded his earnest gaze.

Actually, Bailey already knew how Artemis felt about her when the latter took the stab for Zayron.

To help Bailey overcome her trauma so she could repay Glen for his kindness without leaving any

regret in her life, Artemis staged a kidnap and risked his own life, allowing himself to be stabbed in the

back.

Bailey knew Artemis took extreme actions at the cost of his life because he loved her.

Her sigh echoed in the quiet room as she stared up at the ceiling. “Artemis,” she called out hoarsely, “I

gave birth to two children for Simon. From the standpoint of morality, it is unacceptable to be involved

romantically with your sister-in-law. You're a man of power in a distinguished family and an influential

businessman. You know what our relationship means for your reputation.”

Bailey smiled sadly and continued, “Your mother did everything she could to stop me from marrying

into the Chivers family, but she caved in the end. Do you know why? Because she did not want her

own son—her successful son—to end up ruining his life because of a woman like me. She would rather

sacrifice her nephew to protect you. This means we will never have our family's blessings.”

Artemis' pupils contracted as his fingers continued caressing her cheek.

“This is why I have to fight for you, Bailey. You don't love Edmund. At least, that's what I observed. I'm

the one who can cause a ripple in your heart. That is what gives me the confidence to fight for our

future.”

As he finished his sentence, he let her go and took two steps back. He smiled at her and added,

“You're the only one for me, Bailey.”

Seeing that she did not say a word, Artemis pulled her up from the table and changed the topic. “I

already applied to the Drug Administration since you wanted to join the company's drug research team.

The person in charge approved the application immediately when he knew that Anonymous was

joining.”

Bailey looked up, and the complexity in her eyes dissipated. “I just want to use this opportunity to lure

Cadence out from his hiding spot. I'll make sure he pays for setting me up, but don't you worry. I'll do

my best to contribute to Luther Group's cancer drug research. Hopefully, this will benefit society one

day.”

“All right. I won't do anything to Cadence for now since you're not taking action yet. He ruined Max, and

Old Mr. Chivers almost fell prey to his ploy. I'll make sure they are avenged.”

Later that day, Bailey met up with Victoria at a café. The two stared out of the window at the busy street

wordlessly until Bailey broke the silence.

“So, have you made up your mind, Vicky? When are you going back to Saunders Group? Are you sure

you want to wreck the company's industry chain?”

Victoria stared at her for a brief second. A fleeing hint of astonishment shone in her eyes, but she

quickly broke out in a smile. “No way. The Saunders family is my root. They brought me up and

educated me. There's no way I'll betray them.”

“Really?” Bailey questioned in a casual tone, swirling the coffee in the cup. “You can't hide anything

from me, Vicky. Why did you go to Luther Group after graduating if you take them as your family and do

not resent them? Why didn't you stay at your family's company instead?”

Victoria lowered her head. “Luther Group is a multinational company. There are a lot of learning

opportunities there. Now that I've acquired some experience, it's only natural for me to return to

Saunders Group, so don't overread the situation. I don't have any other motive,” she said calmly.

Bailey smiled coldly. “You're not admitting to anything unless I state it clearly, aren't you, Vicky? Lionel's

return means he's ready to take down the Saunderses. You are now joining your family's company to

help him, aren't you?”

“No,” Victoria negated outright. “I'm going back to help my family. You're misinterpreting this.”

Bailey held her forehead in annoyance. Her lips parted as if she wanted to say more, but she did not

continue.

She sighed in the end. “Fine. I respect that everyone has their own emotions they need to deal with, so

I'm not going to pry into anything, but you have to promise me something. Please don't do anything

stupid. What happened seven years ago is not your fault, so don't bear this burden unnecessarily,

okay?”

Victoria smiled. “Bay, I want to close this chapter and put the past behind me. This is the only way I can

move on. You promised we would go all out on our career together.”

Bailey smiled back, shaking her head. “Sure. I'll put you in charge of Emmy Boutique if you want to

stand on your own feet,” she agreed, dropping the previous subject.

“Bay, don't you think this is a little too much? Are you seriously giving me a company worth hundreds of

billions just like that?”

Bailey pinched her friend's cheek. “You're my best friend. What's wrong with giving you the best?”

Victoria chuckled in response.

Back at the Jefferson residence, Clarence was sitting on the couch reading the newspaper when

Beatrice went over, sat beside him, and held his arm.

“Clarence, I was just thinking about Max's condition. I'm afraid the Luther family might invalidate his

inheritance, given his mental issue. If that's the case, Ronni's position in the family will be shaken. Do

you think we should do something to help her?”

Clarence's hands froze, clenching the newspaper. He tilted his head and looked over with a frown.

“What can I do, huh? She's spent seven years with Artemis, but he still refuses to marry her. It is not

like I can take a knife and force that man to marry her. Ronni only has herself to blame for not trying

harder.”

“Clarence...” Beatrice muttered in an ingratiating tone, “Ronni already tried her best. She's just one step

away from her goal, so you should give her a push.”

“Give her a push? How?”
