Chapter 389

The news made her a little worried about her disciple.

The girl was already two feet into the mess, and she was terrified of Juliana doing something irrational.

“All right, I got it. Inform me when the Hoffman family's people arrive in Hallsbay. I'll meet them first.”

“Ms. Bailey, I don't quite understand this. Haven't you severed the master-disciple relationship with

Juliana? Why are you still so worried about her?”

A small smile crept onto Bailey's lips. “I only have one disciple, and the one she fell for is my...

Regardless of everything, this is a matter I should be dealing with properly. Don't ask any more

questions about this and just do as I tell you to.”

“Okay.”

Just as the call ended, Artemis came out of the bathroom.

He had just finished his shower, so he only had a towel wrapped around his waist. Countless drops of

water were sliding down his chest, making his bronze skin glisten alluringly.

Bailey swallowed and averted her gaze before hoarsely saying, “Didn't I buy you a set of sleepwear?

Why aren't you wearing it?”

Artemis lifted a brow and strode over to hug her.

Bailey tried to struggle out of his hold. “I haven't showered yet and smell like sweat right now. Let go.”

“No, I can only smell your usual sweet scent on you.”

Bailey was rendered speechless.

Artemis nuzzled her neck before mumbling, “Who was it?”

“One of my subordinates. He told me that the Hoffman family has sent one of their elders here to bring

Julie back. I'm guessing that they've found out about Julie courting Zeke.”

Artemis raised his brows and teased, “Bailey, if your disciple becomes your sister-in-law, what would

you feel?”

Bailey rolled her eyes and smacked his head. “Be serious. Think of a way to help me hold the Hoffman

family's men back for now. I'm going to find out what Zeke thinks about this and whether or not he has

any feelings for Julie.”

“Okay,” Artemis softly answered before lifting her up in a bridal carry.

“What are you doing?”

“Taking you to the shower.”

Bailey frowned.

Take me to shower? It sounds like you're about to unleash your inner beast instead!

In the meantime, the three children were eavesdropping as they pressed their ears on the door.

Sly grins appeared on their faces when they heard their father cooking up a nefarious plan again.

“Susan, you're going to be an older sister in no time.”

“Hehe. Thank you, Zayron.”

In the living room of a private mansion out in the suburbs, Micah was forced to take three steps back by

a young man's punch.

He narrowed his eyes at his opponent, and after spitting out a mouthful of blood, he lifted his hand to

wipe the remaining blood from his lips.

“Holden, it's been a while. It seems like you're getting better and better in combat.”

Holden, being the stoic man he was, seemed indifferent as he stared at Micah expressionlessly, but the

tenseness of his body said otherwise.

“Where's Shannon? Where is she?”

A gloomy laugh slipped past Micah's lips. “What's the matter? Do you still think that I was the one who

hid her away back then? Holden, your power and influence are no lesser than mine. How can you

possibly fail to find her if I was the one to hide her away?”

Holden furrowed his brows.

Indeed, he had looked into each and every one of Micah's properties over the past few years, but still,

he could not find her.

Sometimes, he wondered if Shannon was no longer in the world of the living. Otherwise, how could he,

a man of considerable power, not find a hint of her anywhere at all?

“I came here when I heard that Shannon had appeared in Hallsbay. It's been a long while since you

arrived here. Don't you dare tell me that you've never seen her.”

Micah rubbed his temples and sighed. “She only came here recently and had been living in Springwyn

previously. I—”

“Tell me where she's staying right now,” Holden cut him off.

Micah then gave him an address.

Once Holden committed that to memory, he turned to leave.

“Wait!” Micah cried out. “Shannon's not in a good state right now. Don't agitate her.”

“I don't need you to tell me that.”

Micah parted his lips but said nothing in the end. He had wanted to ask Holden if he had a son who

was already seven years old.

However, the other man seemed like he was in a haste to meet his sister, so Micah decided to clamp

his mouth shut again.

Whatever the case, Holden was now in Hallsbay, so Micah was going to call Lionel and have them

settle things themselves.

An hour later, in a rental house in the suburbs, someone opened the door.

Shannon stood transfixed for a while when she laid eyes on the slender figure by the doorway. In

seconds, tears began welling up in her eyes.

“H-Holden...”

Holden raked his gaze across her before finally stopping at the empty sleeve on her left. His eyes

widened, and his brows knitted.

Shannon could not hold it back any longer at the sight of her family. She threw herself into Holden's

arms and began bawling.

Holden was not used to having anyone of the opposite sex come close to him. Despite that, after

recovering from his initial shock, he reached out to hug her and whisper hoarsely, “Where have you

gone all these years?”

Shannon's crying only worsened when his familiar voice traveled into her ears.

Back then, Shannon was forced to leave without saying goodbye to not put her brother in a tough spot.

With Bailey's help, she managed to fly under Micah and Holden's radar.

No one expected their separation to last six years.

In the past six years, Shannon thought about her brother all the time as he was her only living relative

left.

She was worried that her brother would not be able to live in a treacherous place like Tarragon.

She was afraid that he would be caught up in the wars between the factions and end up dying a

horrible death.

“I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. I was insensible, and I made you worry.”

A quiet sigh slipped out of Holden, and he picked her up. After closing the door behind him, he carried

her to the living room and placed her on the couch.

Then, his warm hand brushed past her head in a subtle gesture of consolation.
