Chapter 116
Everything around Joan and Harvey was dead quiet.
Eloise was watching the pair of old lovers meet again after a long time.
Harvey's eyes were a complex mix of pain, shock, and surprise.
Eloise didn't know if he still loved Joan or how deep that love was, but she could
tell that Harvey definitely bore resentment towards Joan.
Hate was the opposite of love. He never forgot Joan.
Max sneered from the sidelines. "Eloise, are you feeling all messed up now?"
Eloise gave him a light smile.
"Max, what kind of kick do you get out of mocking me? Aren't you supposed to be happy now?"
Max slowly clenched his fists.
What had he gained?
What could make him happy?
He lost the woman who had loved him for four years and was watching her live her life with another man.
All of this was his own doing! Harvey was right; it was he, Max, who had handed Eloise over to Harvey. It was he
who had lost her.
Max's throat twitched slightly.
He blurted out uncontrollably. "Eloise, if | could give up everything, could we start over?"
Eloise suddenly looked up. Her eyes were full of disbelief.
How could Max think they could start over? He trampled on her dignity, then casually said sorry and thought
they could start over?
What a joke!
Eloise's eyes were slightly red, and her lips were quivering.
She stared at Max, hating him like she never had before.
Just then, Orlena's soft voice cfrom off to the side. "Max, Eloise, so you guys are here."

This voice also caught the attention of the pair of old lovers.
Harvey slowly turned his head.
He saw Max and Eloise standing very close, both staring at each other.
Eloise's eyes were tinged red, as if she were about to cry, while Max's eyes were filled with heart-wrenching pain.
Harvey's eyes narrowed slightly. He had an uncomfortable feeling in his heart. Joan gently lifted her long hair,
asking in a somewhat teasing tone. "Girlfriend?" Harvey didn't deny it.
Joan stepped forward, whispering into Harvey's ear with a smile. "Harvey, long tno see! All these years, I've
been worried that the hurt | caused you might lead you to keep your distance from women. I'm glad to see
you're doing well now."
Harvey gave a faint smile. "Long tno see! Also, you're overthinking."
Joan tilted her beautiful head.
Under the sunlight, her delicate features and fiery red lips drew everyone's attention. Harvey, for a moment,
thought that Joan hadn't changed a bit over the years.
Eloise and Joan were polar opposites in character.
Eloise loved domestic life and cooking; her personality was stable and easy to
calm. Of course, Eloise also loved dressing up.
Harvey turned around, only to find that she was no longer there.
Eloise was gone.
He thought that she must have seen him and Joan.
Harvey was stunned for a moment.
Joan squinted slightly.
She had learned abroad that there was someone at Harvey's side, which was why she cback. She wanted to
see what kind of person could appear by Harvey's side. The feeling she got from a glance earlier was nothing
extraordinary, but now Harvey's reaction made her change her mind.
"Harvey, aren't you going to showaround your house?"
Joan teased, acting as comfortable as an old friend.
Harvey quietly looked at where Eloise had stood. It was a while before he took his gaze back and said lightly,
"There are selders who would love to meet you!"
Joan tried to link her arm with his.
Harvey cleverly avoided it. "Joan, that's not appropriate."
Joan's face stiffened slightly. She said softly, "Harvey, you never used to refuse me."
Harvey walked quickly towards the house; his voice carried back from ahead of her. "Joan, you also said that was
the past."
They left.
On the second floor of the villa, Max watched them coldly.
He saw Harvey lost in thought, his gaze fixed on the spot where Eloise had stood.
When did Harvey start caring about Eloise like this? He should have noticed earlier that Harvey's eyes were full
of male desire when he looked at Eloise.
Men knew men the best. What did Harvey constantly feeling this way about a woman mean? If it wasn't simple
fondness, then what was it? If it wasn't possession, then what was it?
Max gently closed his eyes.
Harvey's feelings for Eloise had already surpassed those for Joan.
It's just that he didn't know it himself.
Max didn't want to tell him at all! Not at all!
The atmosphere of the birthday party changed with Joan's arrival.
Everyone present knew about Harvey and Joan's past, and now that the main character had returned, their
curious eyes were turned to Eloise.
Even Pauline was worried.
She quietly told Eloise. "Lou, don't overthink it; Harvey and her were just
childhood playmates, and besides, Joan is already engaged to a foreigner. She's only back to deal with some
contractual issues; it won't affect your relationship with Harvey."
Eloise gave a faint smile.
She couldn't explain to Pauline that she and Harvey were just "friends" in a physical sense.
But she liked him, so she chose to dodge.
All afternoon and evening, Harvey barely saw Eloise. The Horigan family's house
was large; you could always avoid people if you wanted to.

The night was cool.
Eloise sat in the pavilion with a cocktail on the stone table before her.
The sound of western music cfrom the hall; it was beautiful and romantic.
Eloise thought the guests should be enjoying a dance now. She didn't wallow in self-pity; after all, this had
nothing to do with her. She wouldn't fight for anything either, because Harvey's attitude made it clear that her
feelings didn't mean anything.
She would find an excuse to leave later.
Harvey probably wouldn't have tto drive her htonight.
"Eloise!"
A soft call cfrom the side.
Eloise looked up and saw Landon.
Landon was usually dressed casually, looking like a standard son from a rich family, but tonight he was dressed
very formally, looking even more handsthan usual.
He walked over to Eloise.
He was tall, and Eloise was seated, so she had to crane her neck to see him.
Landon's voice was huskier than usual. "Not gonna hit the dance floor? What a waste, all dressed up and
nowhere to go."
Eloise gives a small laugh. "No thanks; I'm good just chilling here."
"Is it because of Harvey and Joan?" Landon was quite straightforward this time.
He was usually not this blunt, making Eloise feel a bit awkward.
Landon leaned in.
His nose almost touching hers, he whispered. "Eloise, you're into him, aren't you?
So into him that you can't bear to see him dancing with his ex, right?"
"You scaredy-cat!"
Eloise's slender neck quivered slightly. She looked at Landon as if she were seeing him for the first time.
Landon gently stroked her face, his voice alluring and sensual. "Do you want to know why I'm doing this?
Because | want you to be happy. Isn't that what life is all about? As long as you have enough suitors, Harvey
won't be able to hurt you! Eloise, give it a shot with me! | promise you'll see a whole new side to Harvey!"
