Chapter 492 On the Brink of a Great War

“Willow has it hard. She’s only been the CEO for a few months and now the entire Southlake

Corporation has been reduced to rubble.”

“They used to be so arrogant back when we tried to seek cooperation with their company. They didn’t

even take us seriously! Well, she has nothing left now!”

Many sympathized with Willow, while some gloated at her misfortune.

Miranda and the employees of Southlake Corporation were devastated when they learned that the

building had turned to ruins.

They might face unemployment even after the war was over. After all, the company was gone.

They were furious as they listened to the mockery from the people around them. Considering the

current circumstances, everyone should be united in the face of enemies.

Willow was aware of the brutality of war. However, she simply couldn’t accept the fact that the company

had been bombed.

Although her tenure as the CEO had been short, she still poured in a lot of effort into the

company.

Listening to the sarcastic remarks around her, she felt resigned. However, it couldn’t be helped. It was

easy for them to be targeted since they were so influential.

“Willow, you rejected me when I proposed to you. Now, look at you. Your company’s gone. How do you

feel right now?” Nicholas asked mockingly.

Willow simply couldn’t be bothered with a pest like him.

Just then, Richard, Alicia, and the Stewarts walked over.

“You were so arrogant back then, Willow. I wonder how you’ll still act all high and mighty now that

Southlake Corporation has been destroyed!” Richard mocked.

“The CEO of Southlake Corporation who used to have a net value of a few hundred million has nothing

left!” Alicia laughed gleefully.

“Why did you sever ties with the Stewarts, Willow? At least our company is still intact. I wonder if you

regret your decision back then?” Marilyn taunted.

However, Marilyn didn’t dare to go overboard. She knew how formidable Caspian was.

Willow was a little surprised. The Stewarts were mocking her the moment they heard the bad

news.

“So what if Southlake Corporation has been reduced to rubble? What gave you the right to

exist.

“I even have a strategically located villa at Southlake City. No matter how bad it gets, I’m still better off

than the Stewarts!” Willow exclaimed indignantly.

Everyone fell silent upon hearing her words. Willow was right. She still had the branch office in Dhord

City that was worth hundreds of billions.

She was still the richest person in the entire Southlake City!

“What’s there for you to gloat about? For all we know, even your properties in Dhord City have been

ruined. Your villa might’ve been blown apart by the enemies too!” Richard sneered.

“How malicious could you be? Do you think the Hudsons‘ properties won’t be destroyed?” Willow

retaliated.

“I’m going to rebuild Southlake Corporation immediately when the war ends. I don’t understand what’s

there for you to gloat about!” she exclaimed.

Willow’s words shut their mouths again. After all, she was right. She was fully capable of rebuilding the

company.

She had billions in fortune. She still had her funds even if the building was gone.

Unable to retaliate further, the rest of them fell silent.

Meanwhile, a few troops had entered Southlake City to prepare for the battle ahead.

The Champion of the Central Plains, Dax, had received Balthazar’s orders to deploy a million soldiers

to the south.

Astronia’s and Vadesia’s troops were still a great distance away from Diatoran. They had to cross the

sea to arrive.

There was no way Robert and Viktor could reach in such a short amount of time.

This gave Caspian ample amount of time to prepare.

Astronia’s and Vadesia’s use of heavy weapons received opposition from the International Council,

which they paid no heed to. They were determined to wage war against Diatoran.

The two countries had long since sought to claim Diatoran’s land. They only lacked a reasonable

excuse to do so.

However, they also did not dare to act recklessly. They would become public enemies if they incurred

international outrage.

Therefore, Astronia, Vadesia, Estrya, and Filren did not dare to use excessively lethal weapons.

“Commander, the International Council has decided to prohibit the use of intercontinental missiles. This

is bad news for us!” Benjamin said worriedly.

They were currently in South Aridlands‘ command center.

“It’s alright. It’s good news to the civilians now that none of us can use missiles. At the very least, they

won’t be displaced. We’re changing the battle plan immediately.

“Tell John to retreat and defend Garthram and Southlake City. Find a way to contact Necros; tell them

to block Astronia and Vadesia from passing through. Otherwise, they’ll be in danger

too.

“I’m sure they know that we’re all in the same boat,” Caspian said indifferently.

Now that they had been banned from using long–range missiles, Diatoran no longer held an advantage

in naval warfare.

“Are we going to retreat at such a crucial moment?” Benjamin couldn’t understand Caspian’s

intentions.

“The two countries have come looking for trouble. Their naval vanguards are definitely all elites. Now

that we’re unable to use missiles, it’ll be difficult for us to stop them.

“Therefore, the best way would be for us to engage in close combat with them. However, they’ll need to

pass through Necros to reach Diatoran. This is a chance for us!” Caspian explained.

Benjamin suddenly understood. “Sir, by that, are you saying that we should cooperate with Necros to

intercept them halfway?”

“That’s right. It’s hard for us to unleash our full strength at sea. We have a bigger chance of winning

once they’re closer to us,” Caspian nodded as he replied.

“You truly have great foresight. How impressive!” Benjamin exclaimed.

“Alright, I’ll leave the arrangements to you. Make sure to communicate efficiently. The most crucial

thing in war is to ensure the messages are delivered timely.

“Only by knowing the enemy’s movements can we adapt accordingly,” Caspian said.

“Yes, sir!” Benjamin nodded as he prepared to issue commands.

He didn’t dare to delay as he ordered John to retreat with the naval troops. They only left behind some

submarines and some underwater weapons.

John did not dare to disobey the order as he promptly executed the commands.

The International Council had banned the use of missiles in any country. This rule received the

The citizens in Southlake City no longer needed to worry about air raids as they came out of the air–

raid shelter.

Willow, Zoey, Miranda, and the rest of them also left the shelter.

Sylvia and the others were still protecting Willow closely.

The troops began to enter the city. Armored vehicles and tanks rolled in.

Although many of them had seen the vehicles during Caspian’s and Willow’s wedding, it was

incomparable to the current scene.

The civilians had never seen such a big occasion before.

“Willow, looking at the current situation, it looks like we’re really going to be at war!” Zoey exclaimed in

surprise.

“You’re right. I wonder if Caspian’s among them?” Willow asked worriedly.

“Don’t worry, Willow. Caspian won’t appear here. You should hurry back to the villa,” Sylvia spoke out.

“Huh? How do you know Caspian won’t be dispatched along with the rest of the troops?” Since he was

a general officer, Willow assumed that it would be one of his responsibilities to

lead the troops to war.
