Her little cheeks puffed out slightly, her big, sparkling eyes fixed on Hertha, making her look like an adorable doll that almost melted Hertha's heart.
She didn't want to let the kids down, but things were way beyond her control.
Hertha couldn't just spill the beans to her; she had to play the long game.
She said, "He suddenly had to take care of surgent business; he's gone on a trip and it'll be a while before he's back. As for when, even Mommy doesn't know." Listening to Hertha spin her tales, Kimberly sighed deeply, "What a mess, I wonder how you'll sort this one out?" Kimberly had lowered her expectations to just wishing Hertha would get married, but now, it seemed like Hertha couldn't even start her own family.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"Mom, let's not show the kids this kind of negativity," Hertha gently reminded Kimberly.
"Alright, alright, do whatever you want; I'm out!" Kimberly stood up, waving her hand dismissively as she headed to the kitchen, looking utterly exhausted.
Not to mention Hertha, even she couldn't accept a man who had children with another woman.
Originally, Kimberly was all in favor of Hertha marrying Alaric, but who knew Alaric would turn out to be such a scoundrel, cheating on her and even fathering a child! If Hertha continued to entangle herself with him, she'd never find peace. Better to cut the ties quickly and move on! Realizing her mother's stance, Hertha understood that her mother had given up, truly stepping back.
This was what she had wanted, yet a wave of profound sorrow hit her, making it almost impossible to breathe. Deciding to give up on Alaric had been painful at the moment, but thad dulled the pain, and she had moved on, no longer feeling that agony.
But now, after all the ups and downs with Alaric, thinking they could start over only to give up again, the sense of loss and pain returned, engulfing her heart.
Hertha held her breath, fiercely suppressing these unwelcemotions, constantly reminding herself that it was no big deal. It was just one guy. Sure, it's hard to find a three-legged frog, but good men? They're a da dozen! Alaric returned to his place, knowing full well that Hertha's parents were also hright across the hall from him, but without the DNA test results, he lacked the courage to face Hertha's parents.
Just as he sat down on the couch, Remington called him.
Alaric frowned but answered, "Grandpa..." "You don't sound too upbeat. What's wrong, work wearing you out?" Remington asked with concern.
Alaric replied, "No, Grandpa, what's up?"
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"Oh, you've had the family register out for a few days now, did you and om Hertha tie the knot or what?" to Remington had been curious for a few days but thought to give the young folks stbefore asking.
Today, though, Beatrice had been reminiscing about how adorablen Alaric was as a chubby little boy, speculating how cute Alaric's kids would be.
Thinking about Alaric's future children made Remington eager to see his great-grandchildren, prompting him to call. "Grandpa, I need your help," Alaric said, his voice soft and filled with a sense of vulnerability.
"What's wrong, you run into strouble?" Remington's worry deepened.
It was rare for Alaric to talk to him in such a lost and vulnerable tone.
