The meeting ended at three thirty in the afternoon.
Hence, all employees of the design department returned to their seats to continue with their work.
Right after Avery opened her email, she saw the feedback George had sent for her design.
In the email, he mentioned it was not easy to meet a talented designer, and he really wanted to invite her to the
Lambert residence. He even childishly included an embarrassed emoji in the email.
It made Avery smile. All of a sudden, she found the man everyone described to be harsh and nitpicky rather cute.
The minute she finished reading the email, she received a notification about a stranger wanting to follow her on
Instagram.
Curious, she tapped on it and saw “serenity” as the username and “Claire Walsh” in the description.
Avery was briefly stunned, but she quickly remembered she had also given her Instagram details to Claire before.
Truth was, Avery originally thought Claire asked for her contact details on a whim. Never did she expect the latter to
actually follow her.
After accepting the request, she waited for a message, thinking Claire wanted to tell her something. However, there
was nothing. Maybe she's not online?
Avery did not take the initiative to greet her for two reasons. One, she did not want to come across as someone
seeking something out of the acquaintance. Two, as an introverted person, she did not know what to say to people
she was not close to.
Thus, she simply tapped on Claire's profile and scrolled through it.
Claire's Instagram profile was exceptionally artistic. There were no selfies, only insights about life, articles about
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtwellness, and some pictures of her side profile taken when she was at some activities.
The beautiful pictures were paired with simple yet warm captions. Anyone could tell Claire was an elegant person
who knew how to make life meaningful by reading the captions.
After browsing through the pictures, Avery learned Claire drew, played the piano, practiced yoga, and even
participated in extreme sports events. Avery could not help but feel impressed. Claire was the least ordinary person
she knew.
Just as Avery was enjoying her time checking out Claire's Instagram profile, Yulissa suddenly dumped a pile of
documents onto Avery's table.
She fumed, “Using your phone during work hours, huh? That's quite bold of you, Avery!”
Startled, Avery calmly placed her phone in her drawer before asking, “Ms. Yantz, is there anything I can do for
you?”
Yulissa cast her a glance before pointing to the documents and ordering, “Make a copy of all these reports and
Excel sheets.”
“Okay.” With that, Avery left for the photocopy room as instructed.
Ever since Avery started working at the company, Yulissa had been bullying the former and assigning her tasks that
were out of her job scope.
However, Avery did not complain. She did not think there was any need for her to waste her energy on trivial things
like that.
When Avery passed by Nina, the latter tugged at her arm and said, “Avery, don't you think you're being a pushover?
You've been working here for six months, yet Old Yantz keeps assigning you all these tasks that aren't yours in the
first place. It's reasonable if you were still an assistant, but you're already officially an architect. Why are you still
putting up with her?” Nina found the situation unjust.
Smiling, Avery said, “It's nothing, really. These tasks are easy, anyway. I can complete them in a heartbeat.”
“That doesn't mean you should keep putting up with it! She doesn't even bully the other employees like this. You're
the only one she treats this harshly. I bet Ms. Yantz has a serious problem!” Yulissa commented frustratedly.
“It's all right. It's just a small matter. Get back to work. I'll get these documents printed now,” said Avery before
heading to the photocopy room.
As Nina watched Avery leave cheerfully, she shook her head, feeling rather frustrated.
Avery's just too nice of a person. She fits the saying “nice people always get bullied.” If I had the CEO backing me, I
wouldn't let a crappy person like Yulissa behave so arrogantly in front of me.
Upon arriving at the photocopy room door, Avery spotted Cayden talking to Xavier outside.
Nodding slightly, she greeted, “Mr. Moore.”
Perhaps the heater in the office was blasted to the max that Cayden had unbuttoned the top two buttons on his
shirt. His exposed firm muscles made her recall the scene of her sprawled on his chest without abandon last night.
She could even remember the warm sensation when their bodies touched, which made her cheeks turn pink.
Meanwhile, Cayden acknowledged her with a hum, nodding slightly while eyeing her flushed face. Just then, his
gaze fell on the documents in her hands.
The topmost document was clearly a summary of a financial statement, which was not a part of Avery's job scope.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThat made him frown in displeasure.
Right then, Xavier, who was standing behind Cayden, greeted, “Hello, Ms. Rumpley. Are you going to photocopy
some documents?”
“Yes.”
Hearing that, Xavier informed, “The photocopying machine on the far side is faulty. The administration department
has made a call to get it fixed. You can use machine number three instead.”
“Okay. Thank you, Mr. Dartsley.”
Avery then walked past the two men and entered the photocopying room. Immediately, she began using machine
number three to photocopy the documents.
When she exited the room, she saw Yvette of Vivi Group and her team walking over with a new youngster of mixed
blood. He was one of the new members taking part in the renovation project.
“Hello, ladies and gentlemen. My name's Armand. I'm looking forward to working with all of you!”
Armand was half Ustranasion and half Chanaean. He had sharp cheekbones, a good-looking face, and the
demeanor of a polite Ustranasion gentleman. At the same time, he had a sense of humor, which left a good
impression on everyone.
The moment he laid eyes on Avery, his blue eyes lit up.
A tall, slender woman came into his view. She also had fair and smooth skin that made her look as if she was
glowing. One could barely suppress the urge to touch it. Her facial features were delicate and pretty. Though her
black suit gave her a mature vibe, her clear, sparkly eyes made her look like an elf who had strayed into the world.
It was a refreshing sight.
Armand stared intently at Avery without bothering to hide the desire in his eyes. It made Avery feel a little nervous
when she passed him by.
When she returned to her seat, she looked into the mirror to check if her makeup was appropriate that day.
Why would that new member stare at me like that? It was so scary!
