The man confiscated Carrie's phone and escorted her into the car.

Cold sweat soaked Carrie's shivering back as her slender, fragile body curled up pitifully next to Jace. She was still clutching her

teddy bear, her hands trembling uncontrollably.

Despite facing unknown dangers, Carrie did not cry or beg Jace for mercy. She sat quietly, like a beautiful doll, waiting for her fate.

It ironically made it harder for others to be too cruel to her.

Before leaving the villa, Jace grabbed another two apples.

He took a bite from one and offered the other to the girl.

“Do you want a bite?” he asked.

Carrie slowly lifted her pale, tense face. Her soft lips were colorless, and her sweat-dampened hair clung to her cheeks. Her voice

was light and weak. “Are you really sent by the Hoffman Group to get me?”

Jace remained silent and kept the apple.

“Are you going to kill me?”

Jace continued to chew loudly.

“If I'm your target, please don’t harm Yasmin.” Carrie's eyes shone with determined light.

The mere thought of rescuing Yasmin filled her with a desperate courage that dispelled her intense fear.

She continued, “As long as Yasmin is safe, | won't attempt to escape. Even if it means exchanging my life for hers.”

Jace glanced at Carrie indifferently, his sharp, thin lips pressed together.

Just then, the phone in his hand vibrated.

He quickly glanced at the screen and immediately answered the call. Upon picking up, his icy tone gained a hint of respect.

“Sir.”

“Did you get her?”

Carrie's ears perked up as she caught a faintly familiar voice from the call.

As she tried to listen more closely, Jace, ever vigilant, moved the phone to his other ear, blocking her from hearing anything.

Jace answered, “Yes.”

“Did Christopher order you to kill her?”

“No. He orderedto bring her over.”

A faint, amused chuckle cfrom the other end. “Heh, when it comes to breaking someone's spirit, no one can beat Mr. Iverson.”

Jace's expression remained impassive. “Since | don’t need to kill her, can | leave after bringing her there?”

“No. Just cooperate with Mr. Iverson fully. Do whatever he asks of you.”

Jace responded flatly, “Alright.”

To Carrie's utter surprise, Jace brought her to the Hoffman Group.

Her emotions were a whirlwind of anxiety and complexity, especially since she knew Ryan was there as well.

After what felt like an endless journey, Jace forced her to stop in front of a white wall.

He knocked five times on the panel.

Suddenly, the wall split open, revealing a hidden room.

Only Old Master Hoffman knew about this room.

The mastermind behind this schplanned to hide Ryan's beloved here.

It was a cunning move, hiding Carrie in plain sight.

“Go in,” Jace ordered coldly.

Carrie stared at the pitch-black room, her pupils contracting in fear, unable to move.

Suddenly, her arms felt empty.

Jace had snatched her teddy bear away and shoved her fragile body into the darkness.

“No-!"

Carrie's heart pounded wildly, her eyes wide with terror, as if blood would seep from the depths of her pupils.

Bang-!

The door slammed shut tightly.

The darkness, like a hellish abyss, instantly engulfed the girl.

The soundproofing of the safe house was top-notch. Even though Jace was just on the other side of the wall, he could not hear

anything from within.

He furrowed his brows slightly, lowering his gaze to the teddy bear in his hand, now damp with the girl's sweat.

With a chuckle, Christopher's voice cthrough in his Bluetooth earpiece.

“Well done, Mr. Bailiff. Your task is complete. You may leave now.”

“l don’t understand.” Jace squeezed the teddy bear. “Why are you doing this?”

“That woman is Ryan's lifeline.”
