Chapter 579 Choice
“All right. If your claims are valid, the police will certainly do their utmost to assist you in returning the person to the
Harris residence.”
“That’s more like it.”
Gwendolyn maintained her customary aloof demeanor as she was escorted into the police car by the officers.
Just as she was about to get into the car, Logan suddenly came out of the villa. Taking in the situation, he hurried
over and questioned, “What’s going on? What happened? Why are you arresting Mrs. Jenson?”
“It’s nothing serious, just a minor issue. I’m going to the police station for tea and to make a statement, and then I’ll
be back,” Gwendolyn reassured him.
Before leaving, there were a few things she was worried about, and she wanted to talk to Logan in private.
After explaining the situation to the police officers, they were very understanding and allowed Gwendolyn and
Logan to have a private conversation on the side.
Gwendolyn spoke in a hushed voice. “Logan, there are too many people in Old Mr. Jenson’s villa at the moment, not
to mention all of them are relatives and elders from the family. It’s not right to send them away. Send someone to
watch over Benny and Zendy on the top floor, and don’t let anyone other than Mdm. Yarde get near the children.”
“All right. Don’t worry, Mrs. Jenson. I’ll take good care of Ms. Zendaya and Mr. Benedict. I won’t let anything happen
to them.”
After hearing that, Gwendolyn nodded in relief and added, “Also, I’m starting to suspect Xander. However, just to be
safe, try to keep all the relatives who came to the villa today here. We can’t let any of them leave. We must
eventually come up with an explanation for Grandpa’s coma.”
Initially, she merely suspected that someone was scheming something and that it might have been someone from
the Jenson family. However, now that the police were there, she was certain the matter wasn’t just a coincidence.
Whoever is acting in bad faith must be caught.
After making the arrangements, she got into the police car and left the Jenson residence under Logan’s worried
gaze.
Half an hour later, Gwendolyn arrived at the police station and was escorted into an interrogation room.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtA police officer picked up a pen and was ready to take notes.
Another police officer started asking questions, “Mrs. Jenson, you claim that detaining Ms. Annie Steinfeld in the
basement was a family matter instead of a kidnapping or unlawful confinement. Could you provide concrete
evidence to support your statement?”
“Of course.” Gwendolyn looked down and touched her pocket-less skirt.
She wasn’t holding anything in her hands either.
Only then did she recall that she had originally come out to go upstairs to check on her babies, but because she
was in a hurry, Gwendolyn forgot to take her designer handbag and even left her phone behind.
Too many things had happened in the past two days. She had been so busy that she inevitably made some
oversights.
“I asked Kieran to personally carry out a DNA test between me and Annie. I placed the DNA test report he wrote in
my bag, but when I came to the police station with you, I forgot to bring it along. Even my phone is not with me.
Can I go back to the Jenson residence to retrieve them?”
The two police officers exchanged glances.
Once in the interrogation room, the suspect couldn’t leave before the issue was resolved, especially in Gwendolyn’s
case, where she was requesting to go home.
That was the protocol, and they didn’t have the authority to change it.
“Do you remember where you left your bag and phone, Mrs. Jenson?”
Gwendolyn pondered for a moment, recalling carefully. “I think they should be inside my grandpa’s bedroom. That’s
the only room I went into, and I remember casually leaving my handbag and phone on the bedside table.”
The police officers nodded, indicating that they understood. “We grasp your situation. I’ll arrange for two of our
officers to help retrieve your phone and handbag from the Jenson residence. Is that all right?”
Gwendolyn knew that once she was in the police station, she wouldn’t be able to leave for a while. Other than
having the police officers help her bring the items there, she didn’t have any other options.
“That’s fine, but please try to be discreet.” There are too many people in the villa. If the police officers are too
conspicuous and are seen entering Grandpa’s bedroom, others will think something has happened to Grandpa, and
this will alert the culprit.
The police officer nodded. “All right. In that case, please wait here in the police station, Mrs. Jenson. If you’d like to
have some tea or fruit, please let us know. We’ll bring them to you.”
Gwendolyn hummed in response.
It was a half-hour trip from the police station to the Jenson residence. A round trip would take more than an hour.
Gwendolyn waited until she was bored out of her wits.
Though she was tired and sleepy, she, unfortunately, couldn’t fall asleep. Her manic disorder was still unstable, and
she wasn’t sure if it would suddenly flare up while she was in slumber.
If she carelessly let slip her mania while at the police station, it could likely spark an uproar among the public the
next day.
Moreover, as the head of the prestigious Harris family and Harris Group’s CEO, if others knew she had such a
mental illness, some ill-intentioned people would certainly utilize that topic to stir up trouble.
As of now, she already had her hands full with plenty of complex matters, so she didn’t want any more issues to
arise.
Gwendolyn forced herself to stay awake, choosing to have a female police officer help her brew a cup of coffee to
keep her alert.
Three hours later, the sky outside had turned dark, yet the police officers who were sent to the Jenson residence to
collect the items still hadn’t returned.
Gwendolyn didn’t have her phone, so she didn’t know what time was it. Nevertheless, she could sense it had been
an exceptionally long wait.
She called someone over and asked, “What time is it now?”
“It’s already seven o’clock.”
“Seven o’clock?” Gwendolyn hadn’t expected to wait until well into the evening. “Why haven’t the police officers
who were sent to the Jenson residence to get my stuff returned yet? Have you called to ask?”
The police officer she questioned looked bewildered. “I’m sorry, Mrs. Jenson. We change our shifts at night in the
police station, so the police officers who handled your case in the morning have already gone off-duty. There might
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmhave been some miscommunication during the shift change earlier. I’ll go and check for you.”
Gwendolyn was extremely displeased. “Make sure to call and ask why the police officers who went to the Jenson
residence haven’t come back yet. What exactly happened on their way
over?”
“All right. Rest assured.”
Without her phone, handbag, or any of her possession, Gwendolyn could only wait in boredom.
Cedrick and Nico, who had turned darker after being exposed to the scorching UV radiation at the border, had
finally resolved the situation there and returned to Salinsburgh.
Once the plane landed, Cedrick immediately called Gwendolyn, but no one picked up after he dialed her number
twice.
Cedrick was puzzled. Gwendolyn never ignore my calls for no reason.
He continued calling her, growing more anxious as he listened to the beeping sound.
Finally, on his third attempt, the call was connected right before he was about to hang up.
However, the person who answered wasn’t Gwendolyn.
“Mr. Jenson, have you returned?”
Cedrick was slightly taken aback. He could recognize it was Logan’s voice.
“Why are you answering the call? Where’s Gwenny?”
“Mrs. Jenson was taken to the police station for questioning and hasn’t returned yet. She left her phone and
handbag in Old Mr. Jenson’s bedroom. I was worried someone might steal them, so I helped her keep her
belongings.”
Cedrick had a feeling something was amiss. “How could the police have taken Gwenny? Why did she leave her
phone in Grandpa’s room?”
Logan replied, “Old Mr. Jenson suddenly fainted in the afternoon. The Jenson family’s medical corps and Mr. Kieran
are here. I’m not sure why Mrs. Jenson was taken away by the police, either. However, considering Mrs. Jenson’s
special status, the police shouldn’t dare to mistreat her. Now that you’re back, you should come and visit Old Mr.
Jenson first. He hasn’t woken up yet, but I’m sure he’ll be delighted to learn you’ve returned.”
Cedrick stopped in his tracks, standing before Harrick Villa’s entrance. If I continue walking ahead, I’ll visit Grandpa
first. Conversely, if I turn around, I’ll immediately go and find Gwendolyn and get her out of the police station. I
need to make a choice now.
