Chapter 591 Atone For Her Sins
Gwendolyn listened to Cedrick’s analysis and contemplated the matter earnestly.
Annie has been incredibly vigilant up until our encounter on the island. The schemes she devised ahead of time did
seem a little sloppy and did not meet her previous standards. The matter about the shooting that Cedrick brought
up is also something that needs to be investigated. Setting aside the question of when did Annie learn how to fire a
gun, she did pull the trigger more decisively, yet Asher’s visceratwasn’t injured at all. He only suffered a minor
gunshot wound. Looks like she has other motives this time around.
When her train of thought ended there, she asked Cedrick, “How’s Nico’s interrogation going?”
“I haven’t checked. Since you’re here, how about we check out the statements together?”
Nodding in approval, Gwendolyn allowed him to hold her hand and guide her into the Federal Bureau of
Investigation.
When she recalled what Annie confessed about her mother, she relayed that information to Cedrick.
“I didn’t expect her to be that shrewd even at such a young age. If what she said was true, then she was truly a
terrifying girl. However, I can’t believe her version of events entirely. I’d like to investigate this matter further.”
Cedrick was, naturally, elated that his wife was asking him for help. “I can send someone to look into it, but there’s
no guarantee the investigation will be fruitful. After all, it’s been too many years. Also, according to what Annie told
you, Mr. Marcus was the one who buried the matter in the past. He had always been cautious, so it’ll be challenging
to find more evidence.”
Gwendolyn had already considered this possible outcome. “It’s fine. Just unearth as much information as you can.
I’ll take her word for it if nothing can be found.”
They then entered the Federal Bureau of Investigation while holding hands to check out the statement Nico had
recorded. Aside from Annie, Paul and his bodyguards were present as well.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtNico promptly handed Paul’s statement to Gwendolyn.
“He won’t admit he has anything to do with Annie’s crimes. As for the gun, he insisted that she had stolen it from
his room. While it seems psychotic for someone to install a metal cage in their villa, there aren’t any laws stating
it’s illegal either. Hence, we have nothing we can use to indict him.”
The man had yet to rest since he returned from the island, so his throat was parched.
As such, Cedrick personally delivered a glass of water to him.
Nico emptied the glass in one go and continued, “There’s also the fact that Paul is an Ospean noble. We must
release him tomorrow if we can’t indict him today, or this might evoke a conflict between the two
countries.”
Upon reading Paul’s statement in detail, Gwendolyn uttered, “Release him, then. He’s just a fool who was used by
Annie. As long as he doesn’t commit any heinous crime in Chanaca, it’s impossible to keep him here for too long.”
Her primary target was Annie. The other minor accomplices weren’t high up on her list at all.
Cedrick, too, read a few more statements meticulously. “I’ll compile and deliver the evidence relevant to Annie’s
crimes to the Department of Justice once that matter from years ago is investigated.”
“Understood,” replied Nico.

For two days, everyone in Harrick Villa was busy searching and collecting various evidence of Annie’s crimes.
This time, it would be impossible for her to leave the Federal Bureau of Investigation readily again.
On the third day, Gwendolyn still discovered no substantial evidence of her mother’s death by Evelyn’s
hand.
The more she couldn’t find anything, the more she was convinced Marcus had scrubbed all the evidence related to
the crime.
As such, she believed Annie’s words. According to her account at the time, she provided a statement of her
argument with Annie that day at the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
After all the evidence was compiled, Nico delivered them to the Department of Justice on the same afternoon. All
that was left was to wait for the judgment.
Just as Gwendolyn planned to leave the Federal Bureau of Investigation, her phone rang. It was an unknown
number that she had blocked before.
She knew who the owner of the number was–Asher.
With a grimace, she answered the call and spoke forthrightly. “All relevant evidence regarding Evelyn’s crimes has
been submitted to the Department of Justice. If you want to plead mercy for her, save your
effort.”
Asher remained silent for a long while as if he couldn’t rebuke her because she had been spot–on.
Sometime later, he said, “Can you return to Mount Tranquil? There are a few things I wish to speak to you about.
Face–to–face.”
“Sure,” agreed Gwendolyn before immediately hanging up the phone.
Afterward, she asked for a copy of Annie’s statement from Nico and drove back to the Harris residence.
Meanwhile, Asher was sitting on the bed in his villa with a box in his arms. He was staring out the window with an
unfocused gaze, looking as though he was deep in thought.
Politely, Gwendolyn knocked on the door and entered in her high heels. “Is it still about Evelyn’s matter? Are you
planning to cite her mother’s sacrifice of saving your life to convince Cedrick and me to show her mercy?”
Peering at her, the man remained wordless, not refuting it at all.
The edges of her lips curved upward mockingly. She opened her bag and tossed Annie’s statement toward him.
“Mom might’ve been sick, but she didn’t die of illness. Evelyn was the one who secretly removed Mom’s oxygen
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmmask when Mom was in a critical stage. Dad knew about it, but he chose to pardon Evelyn. You’d better take a good
look at what kind of devil the illegitimate daughter you’ve been protecting is.”
At that, Asher stared at her in astoundment.
Skepticism surfaced on his countenance before he could wholly digest the information she disclosed.
Immediately, he focused his attention on the statement and read it in detail.
As he did so, she didn’t forget to fan the flames, adding, “Do you have any idea how arrogant Evelyn was when she
brought me to the island villa a few days ago? She said after she took off Mom’s oxygen mask, she watched on as
Mom died in disbelief.
“For so many years, she didn’t feel even a hint of remorse for what she did. In fact, she was furious that she
couldn’t turn her mother into the Harris family’s legitimate wife so that she could be a legitimate
heiress.
“Even though you’ve helped her so much, she was merely toying with you. You’re nothing but a stepping stone to
her. Don’t you feel guilty for breaking your biological sister’s heart for a cold–blooded illegitimate daughter, Asher?”
The more she spoke, the more she tightened her fists in rage. Immense hatred swirled in her eyes as she wished
she could burn Evelyn to ash.
Asher read that statement three times. Shock remained on his face as he continuously shook his head. “How can
this be…”
Staring at his look of mistrust, Gwendolyn inhaled deeply and suppressed the ball of fury boiling in her chest.
“It’s up to you if you want to believe it or not. However, you can rest assured that I won’t let her die, for she
ultimately carries the blood of the Harrises. Besides, this is an old case. With only a few statements to prove her
wrongdoing, there’s no way she’ll get the death sentence, especially considering her young age back then.
Nonetheless, I want her imprisoned for life so that she can rot in hell and atone for her sins for as long as she lives.”
Upon ending her sinister speech, she turned away and left.
Still studying the statement, Asher didn’t even have the chance to show his sister what was inside the box sitting on
his lap. It was a few objects left by their mother.
