Chapter 607 Gwendolyn Has Not Much Strength
Cedrick pondered for a while before proposing, “I’ll first accompany you to the lab today and have Joshua perform
a test and full-body examination. To be on the safe side, we need to have a look at the report.”
Gwendolyn nodded and accepted his arrangements.
The two of them washed up together before leaving home. Soon, they arrived at the laboratory.
Joshua nervously took Gwendolyn’s blood to be tested.
After they waited for a little over half an hour, the report was finally ready.
“All the indicators are indeed more normal compared to before. But you’ve yet to recover fully. You still have to pay
close attention to your emotional state in the future. Try your best not to be overly worked up. Also, remember to
guard against arrogance and impetuousness.”
At that news, Cedrick unconsciously tightened his hold on Gwendolyn’s hand. However, his many years of
experience as the leader and person in charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation reminded him that he had to
remain calm.
He forcibly suppressed his excitement and exchanged a smile with his wife.
Joshua continued, “Judging from your current recovery, you probably don’t need any more IV infusions I’ll prescribe
you some oral meds to keep you calm. Take it with the current medication.” Gratification suffused him as he looked
at the report in front of him. “I didn’t expect you to be cured so quickly under Cedrick’s care just after taking IV
infusions for two months consecutively, Gwendolyn. This is great news! You’re both blessed.”
All smiles, Gwendolyn replied, “It’s thanks to you, too. You’re the person who made this happen.”
Joshua waved his hands profusely, not daring to accept the praise. “This isn’t my credit. The honor should belong to
Cedrick instead. No matter the hour, he insisted on keeping you company when you had your IV infusions. He
willingly became your punching bag and an avenue for you to vent whenever you had a manic episode. If I were in
his shoes, I would never be able to do all that.”
At the mention of how she had gotten violent with Cedrick back then, Gwendolyn felt guilty deep within. She
lowered her eyes and bobbed her head silently in agreement with the man’s words.
Cedrick perceptively noticed the change in her expression. He retorted blasély, “That’s because you’ve never been
in a relationship. When you get married, you’ll know how it feels to love someone. Besides, Gwenny hasn’t much
strength. Her blows don’t hurt at all. Don’t take me for such a weakling
The corners of Joshua’s mouth twitched.
Back when he went on a business trip and entrusted Gwendolyn to me, I was the one who arranged for four
strapping bodyguards from the lab to fight her when she was in the grips of a manic episode. They all ended up

black and bruised, then came crying to me that they’d never take such a job again. Yet, he’s claiming that she
hasn’t much strength and her blows don’t hurt at all?
Aware that his friend was comforting his wife, he did not expose him but played along. “Yes, yes, Gwendolyn hasn’t
much strength. She can’t even unscrew the cap of a bottle, so even if she hit you while having a manic episode, it
would only feel like scratches from a kitten.”
Alas, that bout of flattery was a bit too much of an exaggeration.
Both Gwendolyn’s and Cedrick’s faces darkened in concert.
After talking to Joshua briefly, Cedrick left the laboratory with one hand holding his wife’s hand and a bag of
medicine in the other.
He drove Gwendolyn to Harris Group first.
Before she alighted from the car, he instructed, “Remember to take three tablets once for this box of light green
pills, thrice a day. As for this bag of white pills, take six tablets twice a day. Also, don’t forget this
one…
Seemingly beyond worried about his wife leaving his line of sight, he reminded her about everything in all
seriousness.
Gwendolyn was initially a touch impatient, but she could not bring herself to make it apparent when she noticed his
somber expression. She listened to him docilely.
“Remember to take the meds with warm water. Don’t just drink cold water. It isn’t good for the stomach and would
detract the efficacy by half. Have you committed all that to memory?”
Gwendolyn nodded fervently. “Yes. Don’t worry, Hubby, Joshua has written the dosage down, and I won’t forget,”
Leaning over to the driver’s seat, she cradled Cedrick’s face and gave him a smacking kiss on both sides of his
cheeks and lips.
Cedrick was still worried and wanted to follow her to Harris Group. Regretfully, his work at the Federal Bureau of
Investigation did not allow him to do so, especially when he still had Yael and Xander to deal with.
Left with no other recourse, he could only say reluctantly, “Remember to take your meds. But it’s okay even if you
forget. I’ll call to remind you at noon and supervise you through video.”
Gwendolyn was taken aback. “That strict?”
“But of course! Your illness comes first, Darling. Back then, you supervised me taking my meds in such a way too.”
Oh well, all right, then
Gwendolyn pouted imperceptibly. Without further ado, she swung open the car door and entered the Harris Group
building after waving goodbye to Cedrick.
Cedrick did not drive his luxury car away for a long time. He first unlocked his phone and promptly set the time for
her to take her medication during lunch break at noon.
It was not until his wife’s figure had disappeared completely from below the Harris Group building and he could no
longer see her did he floor the gas pedal and head toward the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
By the time he arrived at his office door, Nico was already standing there meekly with a stack of documents in his
hands, seemingly waiting for him.
Cedrick quirked a brow. “Why are you waiting outside today instead of going in?”
Nico grinned at him. “I can see the corridor when I stand here, so I get to greet you earlier, Cedrick.”
“How glib!”
Despite the slight snub, Cedrick was not angry. Brushing past the man, he opened his office door. “Come in, and
we’ll talk further.”
Nico followed him into the room obediently and placed the pile of information he had obtained from his
investigation on the table.
Picking up the information, Cedrick ordered while scanning his eyes over the contents, “Tell me your take and
progress.”
“Because the incident happened over twenty years ago, it was terribly difficult to find the news records back then. I
visited all the news agencies in the whole of Salinsburgh before I finally found the archives with a record of the car
accident at that time.”
A frown abruptly marred Cedrick’s countenance. “While the Jenson family wasn’t the wealthiest family back then, it
was still one of the most affluent families in Salinsburgh. As the eldest son of the Jenson family, my father was the
likeliest person to inherit Grandpa’s position. His death should have been a national sensation. How is it possible that
it was only reported by a few news agencies?”
Nico nodded in agreement. “I’m also very much suspicious about that. Back then, your parents were the heirs of
Jenson Group and enjoyed great renown. It wasn’t a minor issue when they both died in a car accident. Yet, I
couldn’t find any archives of the news report at that time from the major news agencies in the whole of
Salinsburgh. The only few I found were from small news agencies.”
After pausing for a moment, he continued solemnly, “Also, Cedrick, take a close look at the news reports I clipped
out. The description of the car accident was rather vague. It was only indicated that the driver who caused the
accident was driving under the influence of alcohol and sped recklessly on the highway. He paid an astronomical
sum in compensation after the car accident and was sentenced to death.”
Sentenced to death? In a traffic case, the death penalty will only be imposed if the circumstances are exceedingly

flee. In fact, there could be some other unknown reasons,
As Cedrick read the news report back then, his expression gradually darkened.
It had been too many years since the car accident. Even a tiny piece of evidence would have been washed away
over time. Other than the news reports, the culprit back then had been executed. There was no way of questioning
him, so starting an investigation was practically impossible.
Is there no other way of learning the truth apart from relenting to Yael’s terms?
His face was chilly and as black as thunder. He pressed his lips into a thin line, plunging into silent contemplation.
Seeing that he was obviously in a foul mood, Nico sighed and ventured, “How about giving me a little more time,
Cedrick? I’ll arrange for more people to continue investigating this matter with me and see whether I can find any
witnesses from over twenty years ago. I’ll try my best to hunt for more leads.”
Cedrick remained silent for some time.
Considering the efficiency of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the fact that Nico had only managed to obtain
such superficial information after spending two whole days investigating the matter was evidence that its difficulty
had surpassed their expectations due to the length of time that had passed.
He propped a hand against his forehead, still reluctant to give up easily. “Okay. Go ahead and continue
investigating the matter. There’s no rush to report back to me. Just look into it in detail without passing over
anything you find even remotely suspicious.”
“Got it.”
Nico bowed. Then, he spun on his heel and left the man’s office to get down to business.
A few minutes after he left, Cedrick was still poring over the clippings of the news reports among the pile of
information.
For some inexplicable reason, a bold conjecture suddenly popped into his mind.
Grandpa was a hero in the military back then, and everyone bowed low in deference at the sight of him. If he were
the one who deliberately-
Knock! Knock!
The knock on the door broke his train of thought. Gathering all the information in his hands, he placed everything
into the drawer. “Come in.”
It was an officer from the detention center.
“Mr. Jenson, Mr. Yael requested to see you. He said he’d like to talk to you, claiming he’d tell you the truth about
what you want to know this time.
