Everything was well taken care of during this trip to Fairlake.
Kieran didn’t leave. He chose to remain by Inez’s side as her secretary at Mossey Corporation in Fairlake.
Given how hard it was for him to love someone deeply and devote himself, Gwendolyn didn’t stop him.
On the plane back home, she rested her head against Cedrick’s shoulder and peered out at the sky full of clouds,
summing up the recent marriages of the people around her.
“Nico and Summer will be announcing their engagement in two days, right? Then, Kieran and Inez will be
registering their marriage next month. So, that leaves us with Treyton and Jennifer. I’m not sure how they’re doing,
though. Treyton isn’t that clueless when it comes to love, so I wonder if he’s able to make Jennifer fall for him
again.”
Cedrick tapped the woman’s nose dotingly. “This is between them, so let them handle it themselves.”
Gwendolyn nodded.
She couldn’t help but feel affected. If only Craig hadn’t tried to control Jennifer’s thoughts with that drug, she
wouldn’t have lost her nerves and forgotten everything that’s happened over the past four years, including all her
memories of Treyton. If it weren’t for Craig, she and Treyton would’ve long been married by now.
“I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t checked in on Jennifer and the e-sports club. I heard there’s an international
final tournament going on. I’ll find some time to drop by when we get back.”
Cedrick was visibly surprised. “Are you actually discussing your work schedule with me, Darling?”
Uh…
Gwendolyn was momentarily speechless, but she quickly responded with a grin, “Well, your opinions won’t change
my schedule. I’m just telling you my plans out of respect for you as your wife.”
Cedrick didn’t know what to say.
Outside, the sun began to rise, dyeing the clouds pink.

pointing out the window.
Cedrick stilled briefly and glanced in the direction of her finger before answering seriously, “A little, but these aren’t
as red as what you did.”
The woman snorted. While thinking of last night’s escapade, she tilted her head and planted a kiss on his lips.
“I hope we’ll be happy and healthy for the rest of our lives—you, me, Benny, and Zendy.”
Cedrick held her domineeringly and returned the kiss. “Of course.”
The two landed in Salinsburgh after a few hours of traveling by air.
As they walked down the VIP passage, Gwendolyn’s phone rang all of a sudden.
The call came from Charles.
With her flight mode now deactivated, the woman finally realized that he had called her ten times while she was on
the plane.
Ten missed calls? How urgent could it be?
She picked up the phone immediately.
“Gwen! Something’s happened to Benny!” Charles exclaimed.
Gwendolyn felt her stomach drop.
After remaining silent for a while, she composed herself and asked, “What happened to him?”
Noticing the grave look on her face, Cedrick stopped in his tracks.
Charles took a deep breath. “It’s… not that serious. I’m at Grand Valley Hospital with Benny now. He’s getting a full-
body check-up. Come over if you and Cedrick are back in Salinsburgh.”
Gwendolyn’s mind began to buzz as she hung up.
What could’ve happened to Benny? Is he sick? Did he get into an accident?
The woman couldn’t stay calm, for Charles didn’t explain anything to her over the phone.
Cedrick looped an arm around her waist, hoping to assure her. “Don’t scare yourself with your thoughts. Charles
says it’s not that serious. Besides, I’m right here with you.”
Gwendolyn gripped his hand and nodded.
Upon leaving the airport, the two rushed over to Grand Valley Hospital at once.
Charles sat on a bench in the waiting area outside the children’s examination room with his head low, his emotions
indistinguishable.
Gwendolyn went up to him. “What on earth happened?”
“Benny threw up his milk this morning and didn’t have an appetite. He didn’t look well either, and Mdm. Yarde said
he was also a little feverish. She couldn’t reach you or Cedrick, so she called me instead. The doctor from the
Jenson family’s medical corps said there was nothing wrong with Benny based on the check-up from a few days
ago, but the poor boy’s suddenly fallen sick now. That’s why I brought him here for a detailed examination.”
“Are the results out yet?” asked Gwendolyn.
Charles shook his head. “It’ll probably take a bit more time.”
The atmosphere in the hallway turned chilly.
“How did he suddenly fall sick?” Cedrick asked skeptically while gazing at the signboard of the examination room. “I
remember how he’s never been as big of an eater as Zendy is. He’s also always been a bit more frail.”
Charles sighed. “Mdm. Yarde noticed a long time ago that Benny’s appetite has always been smaller and that he
sleeps a lot more, but she didn’t pay much attention to these things since every baby is different. His condition only
became more evident lately, and things suddenly went downhill this morning.”
“There’s no point in making all these guesses. Let’s just wait for the results,” Gwendolyn said.
Cedrick stood with his back upright and his fists clenched. He had a bad feeling about this.

RNA virus?
Being the perceptive woman she was, Gwendolyn immediately noticed how rigid her husband was. Seeing the look
of guilt on his face, she could also tell what he was thinking.
“Don’t think too much. It could just be a minor illness! It doesn’t necessarily have something to do with the virus,”
she assured him, stroking his face.
Despite feeling extremely anxious herself, she still chose to console the man.
Charles froze upon hearing the word “virus.” He felt as though he had been stabbed in the chest like a knife.
His face turned pale as nervousness washed over him.
Cedrick’s only been hit by one strain of virus, and I’m the one who created it. What if it ends up affecting Benny
too?
A complex feeling swirled within him. He dared not even imagine such an outcome.
“I’m sorry.” He hung his head low in shame, tears threatening to spill down the sides of his blue eyes.
Gwendolyn and Cedrick fell quiet at the same time.
Charles gulped. “If Benny’s frail health and this sickness of his was a result of my past mistakes, I’d be terribly
ashamed as their godfather. I wouldn’t be able to make it up to them even if I were to die.”
Cedrick’s gaze turned glacier-like. “Since you’re aware that dying isn’t going to fix anything, you better stay alive
and do what you can to make it up to these two innocent children.”
Charles nodded in desolation.
The entire hallway felt suffocating.
The three of them sat anxiously, desperate to know the results of the check-up but, at the same time, fearing what
they might hear.
The door to the examination room opened half an hour later.
Cedrick, Gwendolyn, and Charles ran in at the same time to find out the results of Benedict’s check-up.
