Chapter 808 Two Troublesome Children.
As his wife held him, Cedrick felt an indescribable sense of satisfaction. Suppressing the urge to cough, he spoke
softly. “You’re right to scold me, Darling. I should’ve been more considerate tonight. If it will appease your anger, I
don’t mind accepting some domestic punishment.”
“I can’t believe you’re still in the mood for jokes right now.” Irritated, Gwendolyn playfully punched him.
At that moment, Cedrick frowned, unable to resist drawing in a sharp breath.
Noticing his unusual reaction, Gwendolyn quickly expressed concern. “What’s wrong? Did I hurt you? Or are you
feeling uncomfortable somewhere? Nico! Hurry, get the doctor to come over and check on
Cedrick!”
Cedrick took her hand, smiling faintly, and leaned his face closer. “I’m fine. All I need is a kiss from my wife.”
Gwendolyn stared at him. Still uneasy, she called for a doctor to examine him.
Upon examination, the doctor found that Cedrick had only suffered minor superficial injuries.
Knowing he was all right, Gwendolyn was completely relieved and left with him in the same car.
She had been on edge all night, and only then did her heart calm down. Leaning on Cedrick’s shoulder. she fell
asleep.
Nico turned around and called out Cedrick’s name, but Cedrick immediately made a quiet gesture. My wife has
been tired all night. She needs to rest well.
Seeing the concern in Cedrick’s eyes, Nico merely shrugged.
Sensing the warmth between the couple, Nico tactfully raised the partition between the front and back seats. He
turned on the air conditioning, adjusting the temperature inside the car to a comfortable level.
They had the situation under control there, but over at the lab, all hell broke loose.
Zendaya woke up in the middle. Upon not seeing Gwendolyn, she burst into tears, giving Charles quite a
scare.
“Are you having a nightmare? I’m here. There’s no need to be afraid,” reassured Charles.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtZendaya looked around but couldn’t find Gwendolyn. Her crying intensified. “Where’s Mommy? I want Mommy.
Does Daddy and Mommy not want me and Benny anymore?”
The little girl had been feeling insecure ever since Gwendolyn disappeared a few days ago.
As such, she would become unbearably anxious if she couldn’t see her mother.
Benedict was awakened by the sound of crying. He sat up and looked at Charles with a cold expression. questioning,
“Charles, tell me, has something happened again?”
Earlier, Gwendolyn quietly stepped outside to make a phone call. He noticed it and was certain that something must
have gone wrong.
Charles shook his head. “Don’t overthink it. They’ll be back soon. It’s only halfway through the night. Why don’t you
sleep a bit more? By the time you wake up, they’ll definitely be here.”

It failed to reassure Benedict. “Stop treating me like a child. If you don’t tell me the truth, I’ll go out and find it
myself.”
Zendaya also chimed in. “Yes. If you don’t tell us, my brother and I will go out and look for our parents
ourselves.”
Faced with the relentless questioning of the children. Charles could only sigh in resignation.
“Tell us the truth, Uncle Charles. Did something happen to Mommy and Daddy?” asked Zendaya.
Unable to withstand the persistent questioning from the two, Charles finally gave in and called Nico.
When the call connected, Nico lowered his voice and answered, “What’s the matter? We’re on our way back.”
“Benny and Zendy are awake again, calling for their parents. I really can’t soothe them. You should talk to them.”
Charles switched his phone to speaker mode.
Nico said, “Listen to Charles’ words and go to sleep. When you wake up, you’ll be able to see your mommy and
daddy.”
Benedict snorted. “Excuses.” Those are all just excuses made by adults. If there’s really nothing wrong, why don’t
they answer the phone themselves?
“Benny doesn’t believe it. Let Cedrick answer the phone,” said Charles.
Looking at the back seat of the car, Nico felt a bit embarrassed. “I’m afraid he can’t answer the phone now.
They’ve already fallen asleep.”
A lot had happened, and the couple was really tired. Selfishly, Nico hoped they could sleep a little longer.
“Come on now. Have I ever lied to you? Don’t you trust your Uncle Nico anymore? Your parents are worn out from
handling their affairs. Why don’t you let them rest for a while?”
Upon hearing Nico’s words, Zendaya sniffed and nodded. “Uncle Nico, please take good care of my dad and mom.
My brother and I will be good and wait for them to come back.”
After hanging up the phone, Zendaya pouted slightly, obediently nestling into Charles’ embrace. Her small body still
trembled occasionally from her recent crying. Exhausted from crying, she fell asleep on his shoulder.
With a snort, Benedict moved further away from Charles and slept too.
Several hours later, the dark curtain of the sky gradually receded, revealing an incredibly bright, clear sky
after the rain.
As soon as Gwendolyn and Cedrick arrived at the laboratory, they quickly returned to the ward.
Benedict had just woken up. Suppressing the surprise in his eyes, he called out, “Mommy.”
Seeing the fatigue on Benedict’s face, Gwendolyn tenderly held him in her arms, gently patting his small. back. “I’m
always here. I will never leave.”
After comforting Benedict for a while, Gwendolyn gently put him down, coaxing him to sleep a little longer. Once he
fell asleep again, she left the ward with Charles.

“Thank you very much,” she said.
Charles’ heart ached a bit when he detected her attempt to distance herself from him. “Have you really regained

Gwendolyn nodded. “Hmm.”
He concealed the loneliness in his eyes and waved his hand. “No need to thank me. After all, I am their godfather.
It’s my responsibility to protect them. Where is Cedrick?”
“He’s suffered some minor external injuries. The culprit behind the scenes was caught last night and has been
handed over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”
“Has there been any progress on the Cloud family’s tragic case? Is the culprit also responsible for it?”
“Well… It’s not certain yet.”
The two were casually chatting.
Joshua was treating the wounds on Cedrick’s body in the laboratory.
It was only a few bruises.
Joshua looked a bit puzzled. “Cedrick, you usually wouldn’t even grunt about such minor injuries. Why did you ask to
come here today?”
Cedrick looked up. “Joe injected a kind of poison into my body. Take a blood test and see what kind of
virus it is.”
Upon hearing that he had been injected with a drug, Joshua was greatly alarmed. He immediately prepared the
blood-drawing tools and began monitoring Cedrick’s various bodily functions.
After a series of tests over the course of thirty minutes, Joshua frowned. “Strange. There is no suspicious virus in
your body.”
Cedrick asked grimly, “Are you sure?”
Joshua pointed at the complex cells on the screen. “Typically, when a virus invades the human body, it immediately
reacts with the surrounding cells. The water you just drank contained a virus marker, which can detect any virus.
However, there are no markers in your body, which proves that no virus has entered
your system.”
It was quite strange.
From beginning to end, Cedrick never experienced any discomfort.
Could it be that Joe deceived him?
