"Uh-huh, got it," Cindy nodded, a bit puzzled. "What's up?"

"Director Yearwood's feeling under the weather today. Tried calling her, but got no answer, and she hasn't called back. Can you go

check on her?"

Hearing this, Cindy grew serious, and she didn't even bother tidying up before getting to her feet, saying, "I'm on it, heading over

now."

Sophia's place wasn't too far from the office, just a quick cab ride, maybe fifteen minutes tops.

Cindy hopped in a taxi straight to Sophia's apartment complex, the scozy two-bedroom they'd scoped out together before.

She didn't expect to find the door unanswered and unopened after knocking.

Worry mounted for Cindy, so she whipped out her phone and tried giving Sophia a ring.

Sophia was at the hospital, just stepping out of the doctor's office, ready to settle the bill.

She'd tried to catch sZ's back at hin the morning, but her snooze didn't shake off that groggy, feverish feeling one bit.

Since she was a kid, Sophia's health had always been a bit on the fragile side, even a minor cold hit her harder than most.

With a flight to catch the next day, she fretted over her illness throwing a wrench in her plans, so she decided to play it safe and

dropped by the hospital.

She'd been so caught up in the waiting and the check-up, she didn't even glance at her phone. Now, with the billing sorted, she

remembered to check it, and, lo and behold, there was Cindy's missed call.

"Cindy, what's up?" Sophia answered quietly.

"Where are you?" Cindy sounded worried on the other end. "Mr. Dempsey toldyou weren't feeling great and took the day off.

He tried texting and calling, but no luck. Got us a bit uneasy, so he sentto check on you. I've been knocking for ages with no

answer. You're not home, are you?"

Sophia then realized that Cindy must have gone to that two-bedroom they'd found together.

"Yeah, I'm at the hospital," Sophia replied softly. "I didn't check my phone earlier, my bad."

Then she quickly added, "Don't fret, it's just a little cold."

Cindy breathed a sigh of relief. "Do you needto cover?"

"No need," Sophia declined. "I've just seen the doc, I'll be heading back soon. You go back to the office, I'm alright, no need to

stress over me."

"Alright then," Cindy nodded. "Take it easy, I'll swing by later to check on you."

"For real, I'm good," Sophia chuckled, turning down the offer again.

"Catch you later, then."

Cindy hung up.

Sophia listened to the dial tone before checking her phone screen and pulling up the door's peephole camera feed. Sure enough,

there was Cindy, about to take off.

She also noticed missed calls and messages from Don.

Sophia shot him an apologetic text and then closed the chat, paid her bill online, and made her way to the medical imaging

building.

Feeling dizzy, Sophia was worried.

She'd been pulling all-nighters for work and study quite a bit these past two years and was concerned about potential issues with

her brain's blood vessels.

She knew of people in their twenties who'd shrugged off dizziness and headaches only to have an aneurysm rupture fatally. And

there were those in their thirties who'd suffered strokes from persistent dizziness. So she asked the doc for an MRI of her brain, just

to be safe.

The building was behind the outpatient department, near the inpatient building, connected by a garden.

The garden was spacious and pretty, not too crowded, with the occasional medical staff passing through and elderly patients in

hospital gowns taking strolls or sitting in the gallery.

Sophia wasn't paying much attention to her surroundings, focused on getting to her destination. But the sudden sound of a cane

hitting the ground from the gallery made her instinctively look up, just in tto see an elderly man in a hospital gown losing his

balance and about to hit the deck hard.

Her face went pale, and without a second thought, she rushed over, instinctively reaching out to steady the man. But her dizzy

state and petite frstruggled to bear his weight and the force of his fall, and it seemed like they both might tumble over

together.

Desperate to prevent his fall, Sophia turned to her side to brace the man, using her body to stop his descent.

She hit the tiled floor hard, but her effort kept the man from falling, barely steadying him as he almost leaned onto her.

Dizzy and in pain, Sophia didn't think of herself, immediately helping the man up while frantically checking on him, "Sir, are you

okay—"

Her words cut off as she recognized the familiar face of the man still looking a bit dazed.

She recognized him. From two years ago, at school, in that scene where the Frost family and Marian were reunited, the elderly man

holding Marian's hand with tears in his eyes - Yolanda's grandfather.
