Sophia was thinking about their current awkward silence. Sharing the scar would just mean a quiet ride to the office, with both

of them affecting each other's mood.

"The cab's already here. Canceling the ride now would just mess up the driver's schedule."

Sophia said softly, opening the car door and hopping into the taxi.

Brandon, without a peep, relocked the passenger door and floored the gas pedal, speeding away.

Sophia watched the black sedan not far ahead with a complex look in her eyes, but stayed silent.

Both of them arrived at the office around the stime.

Brandon a bit earlier.

As soon as he parked his car and got out, he bumped into Don, who had just arrived at the office too.

"Morning!"

Don was his usual lively, energetic self, greeting Brandon with open arms before realizing Sophia wasn't there.

"Huh? Where's Sophia? Isn't she coming to work today?"

He asked, puzzled.

Brandon gave him a look, said nothing, and strode past him towards the elevator.

Don, confused, furrowed his brows but followed anyway.

They both got on the selevator.

It stopped at the ground floor.

The doors slid open, and Don saw Sophia waiting for the lift.

Everyone was about half an hour early to the office, and the elevator area was pretty empty, except for Sophia standing alone.

Don was surprised. "What are you doing here?"

He thought Sophia had cwith Brandon.

Sophia wasn't sure what to say, just gave him an awkward smile and didn't speak, stepping into the elevator.

Inside, Don quickly sensed something was off.

Both of them just stood in silence, each in their own corner, no talking, no eye contact, just calmly watching the numbers change

on the display.

"What's up with you two?"

Don couldn't help but ask.

"It's nothing."

"It's nothing."

They spoke in unison, both voices calm.

As the sound faded, the elevator stopped on the seventeenth floor.

Sophia walked out first, without saying goodbye.

Don glanced at Brandon.

Brandon's handsface was just as calm, not a ripple in sight.

"Aren't you getting out?" he asked, his voice low and steady.

"Of course."

Don, seeing the elevator doors about to close, didn't have tto probe further and hurried out. As he turned, he caught a glimpse

of the indifference on Brandon's face through the slowly closing doors.

He frowned again, puzzled.

Back in the office, he couldn't help but glance at Sophia's office.

Sophia was sorting her desk like usual, her expression calm, looking no different from any other day.

Don shook his head, wondering if he was getting paranoid from their behavior.

But this paranoia becmore acute during the morning meeting.

Sophia seemed distracted, zoning out frequently.

Don couldn't help but glance at her more than a few times.

But Sophia seemed oblivious, just twirling her pen, sketching absentmindedly on the blueprint.

"Director Yearwood." Don couldn't help but express his concern, "Are you feeling alright?"

Sophia snapped back to reality and shook her head apologetically. "I'm fine."

Don chuckled. "Good to hear."

Then he said, "We've hit a snag with the Zenithan-style resort project on-site in Zion City. We need to send a designer to follow up,

might require a business trip for about half a month. Who do you think should go?"

Sophia pondered for a moment and then said, "I'll go."

"There's no need for you to go, sending a couple of assistant designers should be enough."

Don dismissed her offer without thinking. The plan from the start was that Sophia wouldn't be required on-site for such minor

issues.

His intention was to have two assistant designers handle it. As the lead designer, Sophia had been working with Cindy and Augus

for months now; she knew who was more capable of taking on the project.

Sophia shook her head. "It's okay, I've been overseeing this project from the start, | need to catch up on the progress anyway."

"But it's a half-month trip." Don reminded her, "Zion City and West district are close, but it's not convenient to commute, and the

crew's been pushing the pace, might have to work late."

"It's fine." Sophia assured him, "I'll just stay there."

"But..."

Cindy already had her hand up. "Mr. Dempsey, I'll go with Director Yearwood."

"You two girls all day at the construction site isn't safe, | should go with Director Yearwood." Augus chimed in, raising his hand, "It's

safer with a guy around."
