Lucas lowered his head slightly and leaned in toward Sloane, just about to say something. “Sloane, I-”
At that moment, the doors of the banquet hall opened again. Jim Raylan, eldest son of the Raylan family, strode
out quickly.
“Sorry to keep you waiting.” Jim's tone was casual, even a bit familiar. “Grandfather specifically askedto
cout and get you. The banquet is about to begin.”
“Alright, let’s go in.” Sloane shot Lucas a glare, then walked in with Jim.
Lucas let out a soft laugh and followed the two inside.
“That's Jim Raylan, the Raylan family heir! And he personally cout to get Sloane?”

Wesley's face darkened, fists clenched tight, but he couldn’t get a word out.
The socialites who had mocked Sloane earlier were now beyond awkward, wishing they could
sink into the floor.
The banquet began, and Mr. Astro stepped onto the stage.
“Everyone, tonight I'd like to introduce a very special young person.” Mr. Astro’s voice was loud and
commanding. “She is my newly accepted final disciple.”
A spotlight slowly moved across the hall, finally landing on Sloane.
“Sloane, con up.” Mr. Astro smiled and waved to her.
Amidst stunned gazes, Sloane slowly walked onto the stage,
An uproar spread through the audience. No one had expected the mysterious new disciple Mr. Astro mentioned

Those who had ridiculed her earlier were now seething with envy. “No wonder she was still acting so arrogant

The main branch of the Rivers family looked visibly sour as they watched Sloane bask in the spotlight. They had

disciple. And this grand banquet had been thrown just for her-clearly, she meant a great deal
to him.
Madam Mathilda glared fiercely at Helen, blaming her. “Look at what you've done.”
Helen looked equally frustrated. “How was | supposed to know this girl would get so damn lucky...”
Sloane was the star of the night and would lead the first dance.
Lucas adjusted his suit and started toward her.
But Jim beat him to it.
He stepped up to Sloane, bowed slightly, extended his hand, and spoke with gentle politeness. “May | have this
dance?”
Sloane smiled faintly and placed her hand in his. “Of course.”
Lucas’s expression instantly went cold. A complicated emotion surged within him.
He knew Mr. Astro was doing this to spite him—after all, it was he who had agreed to end the engagement.
Mr. Astro stood off to the side with a faintly meaningful smile. His gaze swept past Lucas as if to say, “You didn’t
treasure her. Others will.”
The music started, and Sloane and Jim danced in the center of the room. Their movements were graceful and in
sync. Applause rose from the crowd, their eyes filled with admiration and
envy.
Lucas stood to the side, eyes fixed on Sloane the whole time. He knew there was nothing between her and Jim,
but watching them dance so effortlessly together still stirred a sour feeling in his chest.
Maybe he really had lost it-he actually had the urge to run up there and throw Jim out.

After the dance ended, Sloane and Jim politely separated. Lucas immediately stepped forward, but before he
could speak, Sloane said, “Mr. Hawthorne, | wouldn't dare dance with afraid the looks I'd get would kill me.”
