Chapter 271 The Child She Never Loved
Chapter 271 The Child She Never Loved
Lucas looked at her coldly, a trace of mockery in his voice. “Kelvin is a remarkable kid. Makes you wonder -if he
ever finds out the truth about where he cfrom, will it break him enough to want to die?”
Madam Aubrey’s face turned ghostly pale. She lunged forward, grabbing Lucas by the collar, her voice sharp
with panic. “What did you do to him? What did you do!”
Lucas pried her fingers off with a chill in his tone. “Relax. | haven't decided what to do with him yet. But if you
keep provokingagain and again, | can’t promise | won't.”
A glimmer of despair flashed through her eyes as she began to plead. “Lucas... he’s innocent... please don’t hurt
him... don’t hurt him...”
“Innocent?” Lucas let out a bitter laugh, the coldness in his eyes deepening. “In your own words, he’s your son.
That means he’s not innocent.”
With that, Lucas shook her off and turned to leave.
“No, don’t! Don’t hurt him!” Madam Aubrey stumbled after him, only to be blocked at the doorway by
bodyguards. Still, she begged desperately, voice hoarse. “You can't... please, don’t hurt him!”

Lucas stood just outside the courtyard, listening to her cry and scream behind him.
So this is the difference between love and indifference.
He stood in the garden outside Madam Aubrey’s residence, and in his mind, he saw a little boy-three years old-
clumsily running toward his mother, reaching out a tiny hand to grab her sleeve.
“Mommy...” the child looked up, eyes full of hope and longing.
She glanced at him coldly, then pushed him away without a shred of gentleness. “You're a boy. Learn to be
independent. Don’t crunning to be held.”
Her eyes were empty, as if the child before her had nothing to do with her at all.
Her words cut into Lucas’s young heart like a knife.
The little boy didn’t understand what she meant. He thought she didn’t want him. Clinging to her pant leg. he
cried and threw a tantrum.
“Ugh, look what you've done. You've dirtied my pants.”
He was shoved to the ground. His palm scraped against the floor, burning with pain.
Biting his lip, he forced back the tears and got up again, trying once more to approach her.
“Mommy... it hurts...” His voice trembled with tears, full of confusion and sadness.
She didn’t even look at him. She turned and walked away, as if seeing him for one more second would disgust
her.
The little boy stood there, and the tears finally fell. He couldnt understand why his mother didn’t like him.

From that day on, Lucas never tried to approach Madam Aubrey again. He learned to hide his emotions, learned
to protect himself with indifference. But deep inside, the child who longed for a mother’s love never disappeared.
So she really never loved me.
Lucas muttered to himself, his voice tinged with bitter self-mockery.
He forced the painful memories back into the depths of his heart. He wasn’t that three-year-old boy crying for
affection anymore. He didn’t expect what was never given in the first place.
Still, he missed Sloane. He thought, if only she were here.
Madam Tessa didn’t know what had happened. All she noticed was that from that day on, Lucas started sending
things over to Madam Aubrey’s residence every few days. But after every delivery, Madam Aubrey would cause a
scene.
