A sharp gleam flickered in Sloane's eyes. “That was my original intent. But...” she lowered her voice, “I have
three conditions.”
Lucas raised an eyebrow, motioning for her to go on.
“First, all military applications must be synchronized with civilian use-especially for field hospitals in remote
areas.” She held up one finger. “Second, I'll personally train the military doctors to use this system.”
She paused, her gaze unwavering. “Third, all patient data collected through this technology must be anonymized
and shared with the global medical database.”
Lucas’ lips curved slightly. “That's it? The Defense Department already agreed to cut profits by thirty percent.”
Sloane shook her head. “I don’t want profit shares.” Her eyes softened as they lingered on the children. playing
outside the window. “I only want this technology to-save more lives.”
Lucas studied the gentle lines of her face, and suddenly it clicked. “You've been waiting for the military to come
to you all along, haven't you?”
“Of course.” A sly smile played across Sloane's lips. “What better place than the battlefield to prove the worth of
medical technology?”
At the second livestream of the children’s hospital free clinic-
Sloane and Bonnie worked at adjacent consultation tables, treating patients side by side. The live audience had
surged past two million; the comment feed scrolled nonstop.
“Next.” Sloane's voice was warm as she called the following patient.
A weary woman from the countryside led a frail, undersized boy forward. His face was pale; every breath came
with a sharp wheeze, his chest rising and falling violently.
“Dr. Rivers...” The woman wrung her rough, work-worn hands, her accent thick. “We ctwo days by train
from another state... The doctors there said there's no cure for my boy’s asthma...”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtSloane gestured for them to sit, her tone gentle. “What's his name? How old is he?”
“Herbert. He's eight.” The woman dabbed at the corners of her eyes. “He's had this since he was little... every
winter it flares up again...”
Sloane took the boy’s slender wrist, her three fingers settling precisely on his pulse. After a moment, she
retrieved an ornate porcelain vial from her medicine case. “This is my specially formulated pill. Give him one
with water.”
The woman's hands trembled as she accepted it, carefully slipping the pill into the boy’s mouth. After
swallowing, his breathing gradually steadied; the bluish tint faded from his face.
“Let him rest in the observation area for half an hour,” Sloane said softly. “If the effect holds, I'll prepare a
prescription for you to take home.”

Sloane turned back to her next patient.
Suddenly, a harsh cough erupted from the observation area. Herbert doubled over and retched-violently,
spewing out a clump of dark, tar-like matter.
“Herbert! What's happening to you?” his mother cried out in panic.
