“Silly girl.” Her master suddenly opened her eyes and gave a faint, weary smile. “Remember to keep practicing
your medicine; and from now on... take good care of yourself.” She shifted her gaze to Lucas. “I'm leaving her in
your hands.”
Lucas nodded solemnly. “You have my word.”
As the Medicine Valley car disappeared into the distance, Sloane's tears finally spilled over. Lucas gently
wrapped an arm around her shoulders. “She’ll be fine; don’t worry.”
Sloane looked up at him. “So where do we go now?”
“We don’t know enough about the Oliver Group,” Lucas said, keeping his arm around her. “If we show up out of
nowhere claiming to be family, no one’s going to believe us.”
Sloane nodded in agreement. “You're right. We need to find a local who can fill us in first.”
Though she was anxious, she knew she needed to stay calm.
Lucas brought Sloane to the bustling financial district of Mirevia. Inside a sleek, understated café, he dialed a
number he hadn't called in years.
“Jaime, it's me,” Lucas said. “I'm in Mirevia. Thought we could catch up.”
A hearty laugh rang out from the other end. “Lucas? You're actually callingfirst? Alright, where are you?”
