Chapter 408 Guess Who Saved the Idiots

Lucas set the bags down by the bed and took out the antibiotics and nutrient solution. “This is all I could find; |

just hope it's enough.” His gaze shifted to Shawn, who was still unconscious. “How is he?”

“His vitals are stable, but there's no telling when he’ll wake up.” Sloane took the medicine and began mixing it

with practiced precision. “What's the situation outside?”

“The city’s flooded with our wanted posters,” Lucas said grimly. “Charlie’s made up his mind- he’s going to wipe

us all out.”

He pulled out a few pieces of bread and bottles of water from the bag. “Eat something first; we need to keep our

strength up.”

Sloane accepted the food but couldn't bring herself to eat much. “I don’t know what's happening with my

mother...” Her voice trembled.

Lucas sat beside her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. “Don’t worry. They'll be fine; we'll find them

too.”

Sloane leaned against him, repeating softly, “Yeah... we'll all be okay.”

They forced down a few bites just to fill their stomachs. Then Sloane told Lucas to clean Shawn up a little.

While changing Shawn's clothes, Lucas suddenly noticed something off about one of his buttons. He tore it off-

and froze. Inside was a tracking device.

“Damn it!” His expression darkened instantly. He ripped the tracker out and flushed it down the toilet. “They've

been tracking him this whole time!”

Sloane snapped her laptop shut. “We have to move now!”

Before the words were even out of her mouth, screeching tires cut through the air outside.

They exchanged a tense glance. Lucas drew his gun in one smooth motion and hoisted the unconscious Shawn

onto his shoulder.

“The back door?” he asked,

“Not an option. The cameras show people stationed in the alley,” Sloane said, checking the feed on her phone.

“The fire escape’s our only way out.”

They were about to move when heavy footsteps echoed down the hall. Lucas signaled Sloane to step back and

pressed himself against the wall by the door. The steps stopped right outside; then cthe metallic scrape of a

lockpick.

“Go!” Lucas kicked open the bathroom vent window and helped Sloane climb through first, then pushed Shawn's

limp body out after her. Just as he was about to follow, the door burst

open.

A bullet whizzed past, grazing his shoulder. He grunted and fired two quick shots in return. As the attackers

ducked for cover, he vaulted through the window.

They tumbled into the narrow back alley in a tangle of limbs. Sloane immediately checked Lucas’s wound.

“You're hit!”

“It's just a scratch,” he hissed, gritting his teeth as he hefted Shawn back onto his shoulder. “Move!”

They had barely reached the alley’s end when two armed officers appeared ahead. Lucas shoved Sloane behind

a dumpster, putting himself squarely in the open.

“How the heck did you find us?” Lucas asked, panting, his hand still pressed against his bleeding shoulder.
