Because of Ashen Pact’s stubbornness, factions across Redwood that had never dared oppose them before were
now seizing the chance.
If Tessa didn’t get handed over soon, the entire Ashen Pact might collapse.

“Maybe they do have a death wish,” Derrick said.
His tone was casual, but there was something darker beneath it.

Frustration boiled over, and she yanked her hand out of Derrick’s grip. “Enough, stop staring at me. I'm fed up.”
The words had barely left her mouth before her stomach twisted again.
The stress of the last few days had shredded her nerves. She was working herself sick-literally.
The more upset she got, the more she felt like throwing up.
Stella slept drowsily in Abraham’s arms. Pregnancy had left her constantly tired, especially after eating.
When the phone buzzed loudly on the nightstand, she stirred awake with a groggy murmur.
“Abraham... phone.”
Her voice was hazy, her mind still clouded with sleep. Abraham's lips pressed into a thin line as he glanced at
the caller ID before answering.
“Talk.”
It was Derrick.
Abraham never had much patience for him, and his tone showed it.
“Are you and Victor scheming something?” Derrick asked bluntly.
