Chapter 1597 Miscommunication

Ian stared at Cindy for a long time before he spoke in a rather forced tone. “I was a little too rash last night, and I

should have had a little more self-control. I’ve been too emotional the past couple of days.”

Cindy felt rather uneasy to hear him speak about the matter that occurred last night, but she went along with what

he said. “I understand that you were in a bad mood, but what’s done is done. You can’t take back these things.” She

was referring to how Ian had mocked her about her relationship with Gary last night.

However, Ian had a different understanding of her words—he thought that she was affected because of how he had

abruptly kissed her last night. Although it was normal for the other party to feel uncomfortable over such things, Ian

felt rather unhappy when he interpreted Cindy’s words in such a manner. She’s not going to forgive me for this,

then.

“What should I do, then? You can be honest with me. Perhaps I can provide you with some compensation. Just tell

me your rates,” Ian uttered after pressing his lips together and thinking for a short while.

Cindy froze for a moment before she frowned. I knew it. To Ian, I’m just someone who can be bought off. Did he

really just ask for my rates? This is ridiculous. Does he actually think this problem can be solved by money? Cindy’s

voice was cold when she next spoke. “I don’t need you to pay me anything. You’ve already paid me for the deal

between both of us, and we now have a regular employer-employee relationship. I just need you to pay me the

necessary amount when I quit the job.”

In other words, Cindy was still planning to leave him. Ian had never been one to keep others by his side.

Furthermore, he knew that Cindy was a decisive woman. She wouldn’t hesitate or pretend to do things that she

didn’t enjoy. Things proceeded quickly when both parties were equally decisive—they had already found themselves

at a point of no return after exchanging a few sentences.

Ian nodded. “Okay. I’ll tell Hannah to find me a new assistant. However, I’m not sure if we can get rid of the

relationship status that we have announced to the public right away. You might have to be a little more patient.”

Cindy was understanding toward this matter. I can’t play along for just a few months after I took such a massive

sum of money from him, right? On top of that, Ian has been riding a wave of opportunities recently, and his career

would be impacted if we announced our break-up.

“I understand. The current arrangements will be maintained and you can just let me know if you need anything,”

Cindy uttered with a nod.

Meanwhile, Aurora was in Cindy’s room, and her right eyelid kept twitching as she was anxious. She had already

checked her phone a few times, but all she saw were the same, lousy headlines. There didn’t seem to be an end to

all the scandals. After lowering her phone, Aurora walked over to get some fresh air by the window.

If it weren’t for the incident that occurred online, perhaps Cindy would’ve matched well with Ian. Aurora felt like she

was close to losing her mind whenever she thought about both of them. She had often thought that they were

thoughtful and mature, but perhaps they were a bit too mature because they were somehow very stubborn in

certain matters.

Aurora stayed in the room for another half an hour before she heard the sound of the room doors opening. She

hastily ran over to find Ian changing his shoes by the entrance. She knew that he had gone over to see Cindy, so

she hurried over to question him. “How was it? How was the talk? Didn’t she follow you home?”

Ian didn’t say a single word, and he just turned and headed to his room after changing his shoes. Judging by the

look on his face, Aurora could guess what had happened. It seems like my twitching eyelid was a premonition for

this.

After a while, Aurora went to Ian’s door. She twisted the doorknob to find that the door had been locked. “What’s

going on, Ian? Why did you lock the door? What happened between both of you? Come out and tell me about it,”

she shouted while knocking on the door.

Ian eventually replied to her in a deep voice. “I’m tired. I want to sleep.”

She knocked on the door and questioned him a few more times, but he no longer said anything after that. After

some contemplation, Aurora went into another room and pulled her phone out to give Cindy a call. However,

Cindy’s phone had been turned off.
