Chapter 131
Melvin stormed out of the house after a heated argument with Yasmine. He jumped into his car, rolled down the windows to let
the biting winter air whip through, hoping the chill might soothe his boiling temper.
He drove aimlessly through the bustling city streets with a cigarette dangling from his lips. His mood gradually improved with
each puff
of smoke.
Jocelyn had really caught him off guard. He remembered the night he got into that scuffle. She had looked so concerned, even
scolded Harrison for him. But what was the deal now? She didn’t even bother to check on him afterwards.
What was she playing at? Was she indecisive or just plain cold-hearted?

As he flicked away the cigarette ash, the comer of his eye caught sight of a familiar figure no, two figures.
The woman he couldn’t stop thinking about was laughing and chatting with that so-called professor, and what irked him most was
the set of sheets the man was carrying. He remembered Jocelyn buying the same ones once before.
And in Jocelyn’s hands appeared to be a set of dishes.
A surge of jealousy shot through Melvin. Were they moving in together?
What a heartless woman, he thought bitterly He had been beaten black and blue, and she had the audacity not to visit him, only
to shack up with that guy right after?
Unable to contain himself, Melvin parked his car, slammed the door with a resounding thud, and marched towards them.
“What else do we need? Toiletries, cups, towels... Jocelyn was making a shopping list when she noticed Melvin approaching, his
face marred with bruises, his thin lips pursed in barely veiled hostility.
Harrison, noticing Jocelyn’s sudden silence, turned his head to see her smile fade and her gaze fixated straight ahead.

After placing their shopping down, he stood up and faced the direction of Jocelyn’s stare. His brow furrowed at the sight of the
man immediately.
“What a coincidence, Mr. Martinez, Harrison said, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose, greeting Melvin with a calmness
that
belled the tension.
Melvin’s eyes darted to the trunk of their car, which was filled with household essentials. When he spotted a pair of pink slippers,
his blood pressure spiked
Seeing Melvin again, Jocelyn didn’t shrink away like she used to. Perhaps being honest with Harrison had emboldened her. She

was no longer afraid of Melvin
Free from the ties of old affections, she felt differently, though the sight of Melvin’s bruised face did make her wonder how he
could
bear to be seen in such a state.
Melvin, noticing that Jocelyn no longer averted her gaze, frowned, “It’s not a coincidence. I came here to find you.”
“Is there something you need. Mr. Martinez?” Harrison gently pulled Jocelyn behind him, a move that nearly made Melvin
explode with
anger
Jocelyn looked on indifferently, her eyes clearly perceiving the rage in Melvin.
Why was he angry? Because she was with Harrison? Or because he thought she was moving in with him?
What right did he have to be angry?
Jocelyn couldn’t fathom what went on in Melvin’s mind. Why cling to her after a resolute breakup?
Was it all just for physical intimacy?
“I need to talk to you,” Melvin’s gaze was fixed on Jocelyn..

Jocelyn remained composed, “Just say whatever you have to say here’
“Do you really want him to hear it? Melvin threatened.
“There’s nothing he can’t hear.” Jocelyn was also testing her own resolve against Melvin’s influence.
*Fine” Melvin said, unashamed, “I’m going to pursue you.”
Jocelyn’s heart skipped a beat, her breath hitched
Had she heard him wrong?
Melon raised an eyebrow turning to Harrison with a provoking glint, “I want her.”
Hamson knew he was serious,
“And what after if you win her back? Are you planning to get married?” Harrison posed the critical question. ‘You’ve been
together for

three years without a promise. What can you offer her?”
Melvin was surprised that she had shared their past with Harrison.
i love Jocelyn, and she’s the one I intend to marry,” Harrison rested his hand gently on Jocelyn’s shoulder, pulling her closer,
confronting the angry man, “You’re all talk. To truly love someone is to want a lifetime with her. She’s not a plaything, and she
doesn’t
exist just to please you. So, what advantages do you have that would make her come back to you?*

With a scoff that Melvin read as condescension, Harrison continued, “Let’s go home, Jocelyn.”
They left arm in arm, looking exactly like a loving couple.
Melvin watched in silence as a sharp pain clutched at his heart
The sky hadn’t darkened yet when Melvin was already at the bar, halfway through a bottle of vodka.Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm

When Zephyr and Yannick amved, Melvin was totally drunk
“Dude, you’re a mess, Zephyr chided, snatching the bottle from Melvin, “Stop drinking! Think about your wounds.”
Melvin’s eyes were dark, “Give it back
“No.” Zephyr shook his head. “You’ll be done if you keep drinking like this!”
Melvin growled. “I’ll count to three...
“Don’t bother counting, Zephyr stood firm, “Instead of drowning yourself in booze, why don’t you go win her back?”
Melvin was seething with rage the moment he heard Zephyr mentioning her, “Damn it, she’s practically living with that guy now!”
Zephyr blinked in surprise, glancing over at Yannick with a frown, “Living together?”
Melvin’s anger was bubbling like a pot on the verge of boiling over, “Pass me the booze, now!”
“Just give him the drink. Yannick urged Zephyr. “The guy’s trying to drown his sorrows. What do you want to do, wait for him to
start throwing punches on you?”
Taking Yannick’s advice, Zephyr handed the glass back.
Melvin was knocking back the drinks like they were water, utterly consumed with the thought of Jocelyn shacking up with
Harrison
His mind was tormented with images of Jocelyn and Harrison picking out home essentials with beaming smiles, and then he
imagined them entering a room together, embracing, kissing. On the couch, by the kitchen island, in the bathroom, against the
panoramic windows, on the bed. Everywhere they were logether.
Melvin’s eyes were bloodshot.
That woman used to be his and his alone. But now another man was trying to erase the mark he’d made on her life. And what’s
worse, she was letting him.
“Is this how she loves me?” Melvin slammed his glass down on the table with a sharp clink, full of anger as he turned to Zephyr,
“Has she really fallen for someone else?”

Zephyr was taken aback.
“Look, Melvin, let’s try to keep our cool, okay? Zephyr wasn’t sure how to console him, “Girls want a promise, a sense of security.
You weren’t offering it, but someone else was. It’s not surprising she’s made her choice.
The words weren’t what Melvin wanted to hear, but they were an undeniable truth.
Melvin clenched his teeth and fists, the veins on the back of his hands standing out. The imprint of the bite mark left by Jocelyn
on his hand was barely visible under the dim lights.
“If you really can’t let go, why not marry her?” suggested Zephyr.
Melvin suddenly fell silent.
“Marry her?”
