Chapter 141: Chapter 141: An Encounter with Meriya
As soon as Cyrus turned his back and left, Sara wiped her fake tears quickly, muttering in her heart all the curses
she knew.
Mad dog. Idiot wolf. Brain of a rock. Son of a mutt. Ugh, why is the world punishinglike this? She puffed her
cheeks, glaring at his tall figure from behind, though only in her heart. On her face, she still kept the pitiful,
broken look. She knew better than to show her true colors.
Because that was the thing about these brainless wolves—if you stood up and tried to look big, they would crush
you even harder. They liked domination. They liked to show they were stronger.
So why challenge their giant egos? Better to look weak, pitiful, a helpless girl who couldn’t even hurt a fly. That
was the only way to make them leave you alone.
But seriously, she cursed again inside her head, why can’t he just believewhen | say | didn’t see anyone?
Like, shit, is that so hard to understand? | said no, so it’s no. End of story. But nooo, Mister Beta thinks I'm hiding
something. Hah, the only thing I'm hiding is how much I want to kick his face right now!
She huffed softly, almost like a child pouting, but quickly sniffled to keep up her "poor me" act.
Sara slipped back into her room, her eyes red from all the fear Cyrus had given her. She found Selene already
lying on her bed, eyes closed like she had been waiting for sleep to take her.
Sara didn’t disturb her. She quietly changed her clothes, pulled her blanket up, and curled herself into the corner
of her bed.
She muttered one last curse at that arrogant jerkface in her heart, then sighed deeply and let herself drift off. For
the first tthat night, she slept peacefully, without thinking about anything.
The next day started calm. Both Sara and Selene went back to their work like normal. Life here wasn’t too hard,
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtnot really. If they kept their heads down, if they didn’t make noise or disturb anyone, the wolves barely noticed
them. They were treated as invisible. And invisible was safe.
And just like this, they had not faced anything in the last week.
Now today, they were assigned to the kitchen. The reason? A grand dinner was being prepared. Because of
important guests, the council of werewolves. It was going to be a feast, rich and heavy.
Selene remembered their encounter of yesterday, and things were not even good between them, and now they
were actually throwing a feast after humiliating them. She felt something was really off.
But she ignored it and decided to do her job diligently so she could get out from here as fast as possible.
And their job was easy enough. Stocking ingredients, writing down items, and running small errands for the head
butler. Sara and Selene stayed side by side, scribbling the names of meats, herbs, and wines the butler
demanded.
But suddenly...
Click.
The sharp, high sound of heels struck the floor, followed by a voice that made them cringe.
"I will not allow such cheap dishes to be served."
The butler froze. Selene’s hand froze. Sara's pen froze. All three heads turned together.
A figure walked in, chin high, head tilted, and smile painted on with heavy powder and bright lipstick. Lady
Meriya.
Selene’s chest went tight. She thought Meriya had left Silver Dawn. Because she hadn't seen her for days. Why
is she here? But she lowered her eyes quickly; she didn’t even want to see her face.
The butler bowed at her, and Sara bowed too, copying him because she thought she must be someone high-
ranking.
But Selene only lowered her eyes. She refused to bow her head to this woman. Her calm face was like a wall,
cold and unshaken.
That single act didn’t escape from Meriya’s eyes. Her painted lips curved into a mocking smile, her eyes running
over Selene from head to toe.
But when she realized that Selene was not even an omega, she completely lost her interest, not even bothering
to waste her words with a human; they were beneath her.
Meriya turned back to the butler instead.
"Why are you preparing such low dishes? Do you not know the honor of the council? The respect of the
Werewolves’ council? Add roasted pheasant. Add silver trout. Add saffron rice and red wine sauce. Do not dare to
serve these...cheap things."
Her voice dripped with scorn.
The butler’s eyes rolled so hard. Selene thought they might fall out. But he held his tongue, only nodded stiffly,
and scribbled the orders.
Selene and Sara lowered their heads to hide their smiles. They didn’t dare laugh, but even the butler’s silence
screamed that everyone thought the same: Lady Meriya was nothing but a loud-mouthed bitch.
After throwing her weight around, Meriya swept out of the kitchen, her heels clicking like tiny hammers on the
stone floor.
When she was gone, the room relaxed. The butler sighed and carried off his list. Selene and Sara got back to
their notes. But behind them, two omegas had already started whispering.
"Did you see her?" one hissed. "Acting all high and mighty. As if she’s already our Luna."
The other snorted. "Luna? Please. She's only playing dress-up. | heard she’s been running after all our alphas.
And all of them didn’t even look at her twice."
The first omega giggled darkly. "Oh yes. | saw it myself. She was practically throwing herself at Alpha Kael, and
he walked right past her like she was invisible. Swith Alpha Aeron. Both of them only have eyes for their
mate. Poor Lady Meriya."
The second leaned closer, voice sharp with gossip. "Mate? Ha. Who knows if their mate is even alive? People say
she’s dead. If that's true, then Lady Meriya might just get her claws in. And if she becomes our Luna..." She
shuddered. "...then we're all doomed."
The first nodded fast. "You're right. | heard she never forgets. If you disrespect her once, she’ll hunt you down for
life. Imagine being ruled by her? Goddess save us all."
