“Watch it, Omega,” one man growled without even looking atas he nearly slammed into me. | sidestepped

out of his way and opened my mouth to say something, but he was already gone.

| turned to see Alexander standing there with a curious expression on his face. Finally. Now was my chance.

“I need to talk to you,” | said without a curtsy or a greeting, storming right up to him.

Alexander looked somewhat taken aback. “About what?”

“About why my nis still on the trial list even though I specifically told you to takeoff of it.”

Alexander’s eyebrows went up. “You saw the results?”

“Of course | saw the results. Everyone saw the results. Why did you leave my non the list when | told you |

wasn't interested?”

“Right.” To my surprise, the tips of his ears reddened faintly. “About that... | forgot.”

| couldn’t believe him. He forgot. He forgot.

Even though | had made it abundantly clear that | wanted no part in this Luna Trial, he had forgotten that | had

said anything. Like my words didn’t matter at all.

“Are you serious?” | blurted out.

He simply shrugged. “Life happens.”

My teeth ground together so hard | thought | might crack them. “Well, you can remove it now,” | said curtly. “I

already told you I'm not interested in your Luna Trial.”

Alexander studied my face for a moment. | swore | saw the faintest tug of a smile at one corner of his mouth

before he said, “Actually, | don’t think I will.”

“Excuse me?”

“Your attitude is indignant and irritating,” Alexander said, gesturing at me. “Which is exactly the kind of quality a

Luna needs. You're not intimidated by authority and you speak your mind.”

| couldn’t believe what | was hearing. “I don’t care. | don’t want—"

“I just think you should try making it to the next round of the trial,” Alexander cutoff.

| blinked, completely taken aback. He was ignoring me. Ignoring what | wanted. | had no intention of running in

the trial, and the fact that he was insisting | do it anyway just made the bitterness that had been building in my

chest for weeks fester even more.

“No. | don’t want to enter your stupid—"

“Alpha King?” Hunter appeared at Alexander's elbow before | could finish. “Your four o’clock appointment is

here.”

Alexander glanced at his watch. “Already? Send them to the conference room. I'll be right there.” He turned back

to me. “Good luck in the trial, Stella.”

And just like that, he walked away before | could say another word, leavingstanding in the hallway with my

mouth hanging open.

That arrogant, dismissive bastard. He'd completely ignored everything I'd said and made the decision for me,

like I was a child who didn’t know what was best for herself.

Fine. If Alexander wantedin his precious trial so badly, then I'd participate. But I sure as hell wasn’t going to

make it easy for him.

| was going to be the worst candidate in the history of Luna Trials. | was going to embarrass myself so thoroughly

that Alexander would have no choice but to eliminatein the first round. I'd make such a spectacle that he'd

regret ever keeping my non that list.

The next morning, | was in the kitchen feeding Lucien when | heard the news from Anya.,”

“The first round of the trial is going to be a hunt,” she said, handingan envelope with my non it. “Isn't

that fun? I've never participated in a hunt before!”

| took the envelope and tore it open, finding the first details of the trial inside. Indeed, the first round would be a

hunt held right here on the estate grounds. All one hundred participants would compete in the forest, hunting

down prey, to make it to the next round of the trial.

This couldn't have been more perfect, | realized with a faint smile. I'd spent years walking in these very forests

when | was Luna. | knew every trail, every hiding spot, every trick for tracking prey. | could probably complete

this challenge with my eyes closed.

Which meant | knew exactly how to fail spectacularly.
