Chapter 1004 Out of Sight, Out of Mind

"Yes. Are you blaming me right now?" Alec wanted to laugh, but he couldn't.

It hadn't been long since all of it happened. Was Jenny protecting Evan just because he

was injured?

Jenny opened her mouth but ultimately didn't say anything. Instead, she looked at Gilbert

and said, "Evan has just woken up. Why are you talking to him like that? What if

something happens to him because of how you talked to him-"

"Just because he saved you, he thinks he can make such an unreasonable demand now?"

Gilbert regretted bringing Evan back in the first place.

But then, he thought that if Evan hadn't been there, then Jenny would have been the one

who got hurt yesterday. That was not the outcome he wanted to see either.

Jenny sighed. "Gilbert, Evan didn't ask anything of me. I volunteered."

"Liar. I heard him make the request." Alec spoke up from the side. If Evan didn't make such

a request?

As soon as he finished speaking, Jenny glared at him and said, "Can't you keep your

mouth shut?"

Alec pursed his lips and didn't say anything else. He continued to sit there and didn't

leave.

"Jenny, I know you're grateful to him and want to repay him, but we can find other ways to

do it. Even if I have to support him for the rest of his life, I won't let you sacrifice your

happiness." Gilbert tried his best to persuade Jenny.

But Jenny shook her head and said, "Gilbert, I understand what you mean, but Evan ended

up like this because of me. Even if we can provide him with a life of material comfort, we

can't make him feel better emotionally."

She knew that Evan liked her and understood why he asked her to stay by his side. It was

simply to make himself feel better. She knew such a request was unreasonable and could

refuse it, but she couldn't bring herself to do so.

"Heh, you still care about his feelings? What a good doctor you are, Dr. Walter," Alec

mocked her intentionally, thinking that she cared too much.

Jenny rolled her eyes at him and couldn't be bothered to respond.

"Jenny, if he really can't get up from the wheelchair for the rest of his life, you'll have to

take care of him for the rest of your life. Then your own life will be ruined!" Gilbert still

couldn't accept it.

Jenny gritted her teeth. She hadn't thought about these things at first, but she gradually

realized the implications as they discussed the matter. "I know, but if it hadn't been for

Evan saving me, I might have died back then."

Although she couldn't pursue her own happiness for the remainder of her life, the fact

remained that she was still alive, and she owed that to Evan.

"You're so hopelessly stubborn!" Alec couldn't help but speak up again.

"Alec! Shut your mouth!" Jenny scolded him.

"Why should I listen to you? You're not anyone to me,’ Alec retorted indifferently. Just the

thought of Jenny staying by Evan's side to take care of him for the rest of his life made him

inexplicably angry. He was currently restraining himself and doing quite a good job at that.

Jenny had no words to counter him and could only say, "You're right. We have nothing to

do with each other in any way. You can say whatever you want, and I can make my own

decisions without your interference."

"Jenny!" Alec was angry. He stood up and looked straight at her.

Jenny met his gaze squarely. They were both angry and unwilling to back down.

Seeing that, Gilbert felt exasperated. ’Alright, let's talk about this later. I'll go contact the

doctors first."

The best solution was for Evan to recover, and then everyone would be happy.

Alec snorted coldly and didn't continue the conversation with Jenny. He turned and left the

hospital. He couldn't bear to watch Jenny take care of Evan and was afraid he might lose

control and lash out.

For now, the best option for him was to extricate himself. The old adage rang true-out of

sight, out of mind.
