Chapter 125 Piggybacking Her
By the time she was done, it was more than an hour later. She was so exhausted that she threw herself into a chair.
Not only was she tired, but she was also hot. It was so hot that her sweat had soaked through her clothes. Just like
last time, Julian watched as Annalise refined the pills. When he saw that she was sweating profusely, he wanted to
wipe her sweat for her, but he was afraid that he would disturb her and affect her progress.
He could only watch as she busied herself. The more he watched, the drier his mouth became.
Seeing that she was finally sitting down, he immediately went over to wipe her sweat and asked her, “Is it over?”
“Yes,” Annalise replied and took the tissues that Julian offered her.
She was so exhausted that she didn’t even have the strength to return Chloe’s call.
“Do we just have to wrap up the things in the pot with paper just like last time?” Julian asked.
He saw that she had wrapped the elixir pills individually last time.
He couldn’t keep the fire going, but he should be able to do this, right?
“No need,” Annalise said.
“Then shall I just put it in a bag?” Julian asked again.
“No, I still need to work on it,” Annalise said.
She took a deep breath and returned Chloe’s call. She asked, “Chloe, are you out of elixir pills again?” “No, I’m
looking for you for something else. I’ve signed you up for the Jadeborough Medical Conference,” Chloe said.
“Huh? Why did you sign me up for that thing? I don’t want to go,” Annalise said.
“Silly girl, would I try to harm you? You are married to Julian now and you need to have your own thing going.
Master Quigley is going to be there as well.” Chloe said.
“He wants to attend the conference in person?” Annalise grew worried. “He’s been living in seclusion for so many
years. Even if someone occasionally uses their connections to find him, he would always issue a gag order. Now, he
wants to appear in public again? Does he not plan to live a peaceful life?”
Chloe paused for a moment and said, “He said that nothing is more important than our happiness. He doesn’t want
you to follow the path I’ve taken.”
“Chloe…” Annalise felt terrible.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“Silly, I’m doing great now.” Chloe comforted Annalise.
“Alright, I’ll go to the conference,” Annalise said.
“Prepare well. You must win! Even if you were unwilling to fight for fame and fortune in the past, this time, you
must win!” Chloe said.
“…”
“We all believe in you!” Chloe said,” “I’m going to hang up now.”
Chloe hung up the phone quickly.
Annalise wanted to curse out loud.
After giving it some thought, she felt that it was still inappropriate for Master Quigley to attend the exchange, so
she gave him a call.
Joseph’s voice rang through the phone. He sounded like an arrogant old man as he said, “Hmph, you’re all grown
up now. Do you even remember my number? I’m afraid you won’t even remember who I am next time.”
Upon hearing her mentor’s voice, Annalise couldn’t help but say cutely, “How can that be? I miss you guys every
day.”
Joseph became even more arrogant. “Do you think I’ll believe you? You miss us but don’t even video call us
once?”
“I’m sorry, Master Quigley.”
“Hmph!”
“Master Quigley, can you not go to the conference?” Annalise continued to act cute.
She had grown up with her mentors since she was seven years old, so she knew them very well. They really
enjoyed living in seclusion and did not like being disturbed by the secular world.
Fishing, gardening, playing cards, basking in the sun… That was the peaceful life they led.
Master Quigley was in his eighties. His eyesight was great and with his presbyopia glasses on, he could see more
than ten meters away. He could even read the tiny writing in ancient tomes clearly.
He would sit down in the courtyard and read medical texts for an entire day. He enjoyed his life very much.
“Why? Are you afraid that I’ll steal your limelight at the conference?” Joseph said haughtily.
“Master Quigley, you are already in your eighties. I want you to live a comfortable life. If you attend the conference,
everyone will want to disturb you,” Annalise said. “Master Quigley, as you said, there will come a day when your
students will fly the coop. I’m already grown up and can support myself. You don’t have to worry about me.”
Joseph’s eyes grew misty, but he still said snobbishly, “I’m not doing this for you. The medical world is a mess now.
If I don’t show my face, any Tom, Dick, or Harry will dare to come out and call themselves the cream of the crop in
the medical world.”
Joseph didn’t really have much of an opinion when Anna dated a member of the Quigley family from Horington
before. Jonathan had said that Julian was a good person and that Old Mr. Parks was a nice man as well. He also said
that Anna liked Julian very much.
That was why he wanted Anna to have a solid standing in the Parks family and he wanted her mentors to be her
most powerful support group.
“Master Quigley…”
“I can’t stand Tom Briggs, that old fart, bullying young people all day long. He isn’t even skilled! Alright, if I can’t find
any peace in the country, I’ll go overseas.”
“Master Quigley…”
“Why are you so wishy-washy? Alright, I’m hanging up. Oh, right, come back and make braised fish for us when
you’re free. We dried all the fish we caught recently.” Joseph hung up after saying that..
Actually, they had not gone out fishing for a few days.
He read books, Dariel practiced boxing, and Cash made pots all day. It was very boring.
Julian stood not far from Annalise. He knew that Annalise had gotten a call from one of her fellow students asking
her to attend the medical conference. He also heard that Joseph Quigley was going to attend the conference as
well.
He saw how upset Annalise looked.
He did not say anything. He squatted in front of her and reached out to hold her hand to comfort her. “Your Master
Quigley has his considerations. Don’t worry too much. If he really wants to live in seclusion, he can. just find a new
place.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“Yeah,” Annalise replied.
In fact, she wanted to tell him that he didn’t understand, Her mentors have lived there for decades, and they loved
that piece of land. They had even agreed that when they died, they would be buried in the back mountain where
flowers and purple bamboo were planted.
Master Quigley was a stubborn person. He would not change his mind.
And he was doing this just to support her.
He didn’t want her marriage to fail, just like how Chloe’s had.
She perked up. After washing her hands, she placed all the refined pills on a flat piece of paper and crushed
them. Then, just like how someone would roll dough, she rolled the pills into small balls.
Then, she took out a stack of small medicine bags from her pocket and packed all the small pills.
“You rolled them into such tiny balls to reduce the dosage?” Julian asked.
“No, it’s to make them look more like ordinary pills,” Annalise said..
“Alright, you’ve done a lot. Go back to your room and rest first.” Julian said, “I’ll carry you over.”
“No need, no need.” Annalise immediately rejected him.
She had only just refined some pills and she’d be fine after some rest. She didn’t need anyone to carry her.
“Then I’ll piggyback you!” Julian said.
“No need, no need.”
“Come on up!” Julian’s tone was firm. He had already crouched down.
Annalise had no choice but to clamber on.
Julian carried Annalise on his back and straightened up. He wrapped her arms around her legs and carried her back
to the villa where they lived.
It was not far away, but Annalise suddenly felt very touched.
She felt as if she were transported back to her childhood.
Her mentors liked to carry her on their backs as well.
The difference was that the backs of her mentors were already hunched then while Julian’s back was
strong….
