Chapter 122 Left With Nothing

Before Robert’s slap could land, Lewis caught his hand.

Robert glared at him, his anger palpable. “Are you trying to rebel against me?”

Lewis’ lips curved upward. He started slowly, “We are discussing workplace matters here. Since we’re

talking about work, let’s leave the father-son disciplining out of this. I am not only Alvarez Corp’s

president but also one of the corporation’s shareholders. We are equals. It’s inappropriate for you to

resort to violence against an equal.”

“Fine! Fine! Fine! Whatever!” Robert shook off Lewis’ arm. “Since you want us to talk about work, let’s

talk about work! Now that the corporation is facing such a major problem under your leadership, you

attempt to brush it off by quitting, and I will allow it! Even if you want to resign, you must resolve this

matter and get the company back on track before doing so!”

Lewis’ brows raised. He smiled. “Alright.”

Robert’s rage flared even more as he looked at Lewis’ nonchalant smile.

“Get the fuck out!”

Lewis nodded, turning to leave.

His behavior was impeccable, but his demeanor was even more infuriating. He remained calm even

though anyone in his position would have been riddled with anxiety in the face of that.

Either way, his respectful attitude was provocative in every way possible.

When Lewis had left, Robert fumed in the room for a while. He could not understand any of this.

Subsequently, he picked up his phone to make a call.

The call connected quickly.

The person on the other end did not speak. Robert opened his mouth, his expression collapsing into a

blend of complex emotions.

“What?”

“Hey, did you see the news about Alvarez Corporation?”

“Yes. Why?”

Robert fell silent. He found it difficult to speak, having not yet decided how exactly to go about

this.

“What? Are you regretting it now? Haven’t you been hopeful about this son of yours?” the person on

the other end of the call spoke again.

“I might have been wrong.”

“So, what if you are wrong? It’s not like you can turn back now.”

Robert sat down on his chair weakly. He raised his head and gazed at the ceiling, his dark eyes shining

with newfound determination.

“No, we still have a chance.”

“What chance?”

“I will transfer my shares to you now, along with Lily’s. That, combined with what you already have in

your company, should be enough to oust him from the board!”

The person laughed. “Oh, planning a merger, are you?”

“What other options do we have? The company needs to get through this crisis, and we can kick him

out of the board at the same time too. I call it killing two birds with one stone.”

“What about Lily? Will she agree?”

Robert sneered. “She’ll have to.

“Alright then.”

Both of them remained silent after that, an understanding established between them. Robert threw his

phone onto the desk, closed his eyes, and sighed.

Even though he’d valued Lewis highly, Lewis was becoming increasingly arrogant, so much so that he

would disregard even his own father. If he were allowed to continue unchecked, the consequences

would be dire.

Meanwhile, Lewis sat in his car, his fingers skating on the surface of the steering wheel lightly.

A moment later, he laughed, removed the Bluetooth earphone from his ears, and casually tossed it into

the storage compartment.

He drove out of the Alvarez family mansion and called Daphne.

At that moment, Daphne was still by Mrs. Alvarez’s side. In the past two days, Mrs. Alvarez’s health

had gradually recovered. Her injuries hadn’t been severe. After all, she wouldn’t have been foolish

enough to jeopardize her own life, so her collision with the tree hadn’t been too forceful.

Daphne looked at her phone and answered the call immediately.

Upon hearing his voice emanating from her phone, her pupils dilated and her hands trembled.

Then, Lewis returned to Styx Mansion.

Josephine was sitting on the couch idly, picking at the scab on her knee out of boredom. The scab had

fused with the gauze, its edges on the verge of peeling off. She couldn’t stand the sight of it.

The corners of the scab fell, but the middle of it was still healing. Upon the slight force she exerted, the

entire scab came off, tearing off her flesh as it peeled.

Josephine immediately pressed down on the gauze, taking deep breaths. It wasn’t until a few seconds

later that the pain gradually subsided.

“Why did you touch it?”

She turned in bewilderment as soon as she heard his voice. Lewis knelt down in front of her

and pressed on her wound.

She could only stare at him, dazed.

Lewis glanced at her briefly. Blood had begun to seep out from her ripped wound.

His brows knitted as he raised his head to look at Josephine. “Are you that bored?”

Josephine bit her lip and nodded truthfully. She truly had been that bored.

No matter who it was, anyone sitting in the house all day with nothing to do would go crazy

too.

“Sit here and don’t move.”

Lewis stood up, retrieved the first aid kit, and returned to her side:

The fact that he even knew where the first aid kit was was remarkable to her.

Josephine watched him silently.

Lewis opened the first aid kit and took some fresh gauze from within. Then, he wrapped her wound up

again.

“Don’t touch it anymore. Wait for the scab to fall by itself, you hear me?” He told her as he sat down by

her side after everything had been done.

Josephine nodded. She was still looking at him unblinkingly.

Why was he still wearing the clothes he’d been wearing three days ago? His black coat had long been

dusted with traces of light-colored grime.

Instinctively, she reached out and brushed the dust off his collar.

She’d just started when he grabbed her arm tightly.

Josephine raised her head and stared at him in surprise.

His depthless gaze was locked on her face, and his voice was deep when he asked her, ” Josephine, if

I were to be ousted from the board, my assets seized, and left with nothing,

would you still stand by my side?”

She blinked in shock.

She did not understand the meaning behind his words, let alone the reason why he would ask

such a question.

Was he testing her?

Josephine shook her head as she thought about the possibilities.

“Really?” Lewis raised his brows.

Josephine nodded, schooling her expression into one of sincerity.

The corners of his lips lifted. Lewis raised his hand and caressed her cheek. “Why, then, did. you run

away the last time?”

She blinked again, unsure about how she should respond.

Did he really not know why she’d run?

“Don’t be nervous. I just want to tell you something.” Upon saying that, he retrieved a set of earphones

from his pocket and put it in her ears.

He touched them once, and a familiar voice filled her ears.

“I will transfer my shares to you now, along with Lily’s. That, combined with what you already have in

your company, should be enough to oust him from the board!”

Josephine’s pupils dilated, and she looked at Lewis, her expression a mixture of shock and fear.

He wasn’t testing her after all. This really was real-

Did Robert truly plan to oust Lewis from his position?

Her heart rate accelerated as her mind went blank, consumed by the news of his impending ousting

from the board.

Strangely, her immediate response was not one of concern but rather a rush of elation at the prospect

of her newfound freedom that would come with his downfall.

Lewis stared at her unblinkingly, taking in the slight changes in her eyes.

His gaze gradually turned cold.

“Are you under the impression that once I’m stripped of my position on the board and left with nothing, I

will no longer be able to control you?”

Hearing his words, Josephine jolted. She shook her head frantically, raising her arms in her. attempt to

explain herself.

Lewis batted her arms away, the smile on his lips turning into a sneer.

“You still want to run away from me, don’t you, Josephine?”

Josephine’s gaze flickered, and she vigorously shook her head in denial, as if her life depended

on it, refuting his words.
