Chapter 131 Please Do This for Me

Meanwhile, Daphne rushed back to Alvarez Manor. Seth didn’t go to the company today, much to her

surprise.

He was on a phone call in the bedroom while looking quite serious. Daphne halted in her tracks and

paid attention to the conversation carefully. Then again, Seth didn’t say much.

He kept echoing a few words such as ‘yes,’ ‘alright,’ and ‘go on.”

Daphne ended up eavesdropping on Seth for a long time, but she was unable to get any useful

information out of his phone call.

After Seth concluded his phone call, Daphne swiftly approached him, calling out his name, Seth.”

The man tucked his phone back into his pocket before turning around to glance at her. “Why is your

hair wet?”

As he spoke, he reached out to tuck a lock of hair behind Daphne’s ear.

Regrettably, Daphne was painfully aware that Seth’s gestures of intimacy were void of any true

emotion. Even the smallest of actions, such as tucking her hair behind her ear, felt as robotic and

detached as flipping through the pages of a book.

Daphne could only stare at the man before her, clearly in a trance. The sky remained dark and stormy,

whereas the heavy downpour continued. Seth stood by the window, his features growing muted under

the dim lighting. However, this very lighting also made him look. extraordinarily gentle and mild-

mannered than before. It was as if someone had put on a gray filter that highlighted his face.

As Daphne’s eyes drank in Seth’s features, most of the guilt that had been plaguing her earlier

dissipated all of a sudden.

She rushed up to him and wrapped her arms around his waist tightly. “Seth, let’s leave the country.”

The latter was about to place his hand on her head when he heard her suggestion, prompting him to

pause in his actions. Then, Seth bowed his head to look at her in confusion. “Why do you want to leave

the country out of the blue?”

“I’m scared.”

“What are you afraid of?”

Daphne shook her head in response, not daring to tell Seth the truth. She was worried that her

husband might view her as a cruel woman afterward.

After all, Seth had been nothing but a mild-mannered gentleman to her-the kind that would

definitely despise women who harbored malice for others.

A glint appeared in Seth’s eyes as he started stroking Daphne’s hair gently. “I can’t do that. I’m not

done dealing with the company’s affairs. If I were to leave right now, everyone would think that I fled the

country with the funds I embezzled.”

“I don’t care. I just want to leave the country with you. Let’s bring Bambam with us. From now

on,

we’ll live abroad happily ever after, and we won’t return to this country ever again. Let them say

whatever they want about us. We won’t be able to hear them, after all.”

“But I can’t do that.” Seth’s tone might be gentle, but his stance was very firm.

He couldn’t leave the country. If he were to do that, he would lose everything.

If Seth were to leave, everything he had done so far would go down the drain. How could he possibly

leave?

Daphne tilted her head upward to look at Seth. “Are you really not leaving? Can you leave with me for

my sake?”

Seth just looked straight into her eyes without saying anything.

The only answer he offered was silence.

Daphne clenched her fists tightly, deciding to steel her heart for once in front of the man she loved.

Then, she said airily, “Seth, I was the one behind Lily’s incident.”

Seth paused in his actions.

The woman explained, “I know this may sound cruel, but I did this just for you. Besides, I never thought

of killing her. The people who kidnapped Lily and her children must have gotten into an argument with

her, leading to them killing them in cold blood.”

Seth listened to Daphne’s explanation quietly. After a long time, he suddenly spoke up.” Daphne, you

should know that Dad got taken away by the authorities.”

“Precisely. That’s why I-”

“That’s why you can’t leave.”

“Why?” Daphne didn’t understand what Seth meant.

The latter explained, “If you and I were to leave, the authorities would think the three of us worked

together to set up the incident. We’ll be viewed as fugitives who are on the run.”

“I” Daphne started to hesitate after hearing Seth’s explanation. “W-Well, what if they ended up

discovering that I was the one behind this incident? I wouldn’t be able to wash my hands off this

incident now, would I?”

“That might not be the case.” Seth didn’t seem confident in his answer.

After all, Lewis was aiming to take Robert out of the equation. If Robert were to get

imprisoned, Lewis would be the one receiving all of the former’s shares. By then, no one in the Alvarez

family would be able to pose a threat to him.

“How would you know that?” Daphne asked, still unsure.

Seth just smiled lightly in response. “That’s because Lewis will definitely help you out. You are his

biological sister, after all. He won’t let you get imprisoned.”

“But he told me to leave the country.”

“The outcome is still the same even if you don’t leave the country. Trust me.” The smile on Seth’s face

was quite faint. Then again, it was his signature smile, meaning that Daphne wouldn’t be able to resist

him whenever she saw that smile of his.

“Really?”

“Yes.”

Seth stroked Daphne’s cheek gently while continuing to smile at her. A mysterious glint appeared in his

eyes at that moment.

If Daphne were to leave the country right now, Robert would end up getting imprisoned for real.

There was no need for Seth to make his choice. He could only trade Daphne’s imprisonment for

Robert’s freedom. Otherwise, once Lewis took control of the Alvarez family, Seth wouldn’t be able to

win against him no matter what.

He could care less about the consequences involving Robert. The enemy of his enemy was his ally,

after all.

Daphne was finally reassured. She buried her head into Seth’s chest in

response. That

way,

she

would be able to seek solace from him.

“Let’s move out of this place, then.”

“Sure thing.”

Daphne continued, “We’ll move out once the rain stops.”

“Okay.”

Regardless of what Daphne said, Seth always echoed the same answer repeatedly. She was used

to that. After all, when it came to trivial matters, her husband never turned her down.

That was unless she requested him to stay at home occasionally for the day.

The downpour lasted for the entire day.

Josephine ended up sleeping the day away on her bed. Once she stirred back to consciousness, she

found Lewis faithfully by her side.

Apparently, he had been watching over her the whole time. At that particular moment, he happened to

be engrossed in studying something displayed on his phone screen.

Josephine tilted her head to observe him for a while. With pursed lips, she forced herself to get up

when a wave of dizziness struck her all of a sudden, causing her to lie back down.

Suddenly, a slender hand was placed on her forehead. Lewis’ voice boomed from above her head

afterward. “Don’t move around. You’re having a fever.”

Josephine went silent upon hearing Lewis’ words. She raised a hand and felt her own cheek, but she

failed to detect any difference in body temperature since her hand and cheek were equally warm.

Lewis propped Josephine up on the bed before handing her a glass of water and medicine.” Swallow

the pills.”

Josephine reached out and accepted the medicine. Then, she popped the colorful capsules and pills

into her mouth before taking the glass of water and washing them down with some water without even

bothering to look at them.

Having observed the woman taking her medicine, Lewis finally spoke up, saying, “I’ll be heading out

shortly. Rest well for now. Conrad will be coming by later to bring you dinner.”

Josephine swallowed more water before nodding in response.

With her head throbbing intensely, she lay back down to rest after taking the medicine. The fever had

left her feeling utterly miserable, unable to focus on anything due to the overwhelming dizziness.

As soon as Lewis left the room, Josephine fell asleep once more in a state of disorientation.

The loud knocks on her bedroom door jolted her awake later on.

Josephine rubbed her eyes blearily before putting on some clothes and getting out of bed. Then, she

walked over to open the door.

Conrad could be seen standing outside the room. “Madam, I’ve brought you dinner. Please go

downstairs and have your meal.”

Josephine nodded in response. She walked out of her room, but instead of descending the stairs, she

headed to the study and started knocking on the door.

Having not received any response after knocking for a while, she then opened the door and entered the

study.

Meanwhile, Conrad stood behind Josephine, a confused expression on his face. “What are you looking

for, Madam?”

Josephine turned around to glance at him before gesturing, “I’m asking Lewis to have dinner

with me.”

A frown graced Conrad’s features. Even though he had no idea what Josephine was gesturing, he

could still vaguely guess what she was trying to convey. “Didn’t President Alvarez go out? Did he not

tell you in advance?”

That took Josephine by surprise. She was stunned for a while before finally reacting to what Conrad

had said. Lewis did mention that he was going out. She had completely forgotten about

that.
