Chapter 167 Showering

The intimate pose caused Josephine’s face to flush red. Fearing that she might fall off his lap, she

dared not struggle.

Lewis leaned closer to her and whispered, “Stop hanging out with people like her.”

Josephine turned her head away to avoid his breath. She couldn’t help feeling a tinge of sadness in her

heart.

Why did he always think it was others who had influenced her? He thought she was spoiled just

because she didn’t obey him like she used to.

What about him?

“I-I…” Josephine stammered, unable to find the right words. Her hands were still trapped, and he took

advantage of that to seize the opportunity. It was as if speaking first equated to holding the truth, giving

the one who spoke the upper hand in the argument, as if they were on the right side.

“Enough. Don’t say anything,” Lewis cut her off, denying her the chance to speak. He released

Josephine from his lap and freed up one hand to keep undressing her.

Pressed against the wall, Josephine couldn’t move. She watched him go about his routine with an

indifferent expression. Finally, the pent-up anger within her chest erupted.

Her nose tingled, and tears began to trickle down her face.

Lewis raised his gaze and glanced at her, his hands gently cupping her face. “Why are you crying?”

“You stayed out so late with Quintin. Didn’t you have fun?”

Josephine could only cry. Besides crying, there was nothing else she could do. Too bad she was

a mute.

Lewis didn’t expect her to say anything either. He took the showerhead and began rinsing her. Gently

running his fingers through her hair, he whispered, “Turn around.”

Josephine remained silent and didn’t move.

Lewis turned her body around and continued to rinse her hair. As he helped her shower, his hands

began to wander restlessly.

Josephine’s body tensed slightly in response to that.

Suddenly, he embraced her from behind and leaned close to her ear before whispering, “No next time,

okay?”

Josephine kept her head lowered as the water streamed down her hair and cheeks.

He had always been like this. No matter what happened, he could act as if nothing had occurred and

go his own way once time passed.

He never cared about her feelings or showed any intention of changing.

Lewis placed the showerhead in its original position, turned Josephine around to face him, and gently

lifted her by the waist. Her back was pressed tightly against the wall.

He held her legs in his hands, and Josephine instinctively clutched his clothes while gazing at him with

her teary eyes.

Instantly, her body was clinging to him.

However, Lewis’ phone rang. He fell silent for a second but eventually retrieved it from his pocket and

answered the call.

“Didn’t you say you’re going to come find me? Why aren’t you here yet?”

“I’ll go later.”

Josephine pursed her lips, her gaze fixed on him. Although it wasn’t the first time, she couldn’t help but

feel her chest tighten whenever he answered a call in front of her.

She tried to break free and leave, but he grabbed her leg and pulled her back. Josephine stumbled and

fell back into his embrace, letting out a faint gasp that slipped out uncontrollably.

“It’s already midnight.”

Sierra frowned. “What’s that sound? What are you doing?”

Lewis glanced at Josephine’s flushed face and casually replied, “Taking a shower.”

“I can hear a woman’s voice. Who are you taking a shower with?”

He calmly uttered, “Take a guess.”

Furious, Sierra hung up.

Her mind was a mess, and she felt anxious as she wondered if Lewis was dating another

woman.

She knew Josephine was a mute who couldn’t make a sound even if someone slapped her in the face.

Naturally, she didn’t suspect Josephine.

Instantly, Sierra’s sense of crisis kicked in.

She had been courting Lewis for years but still failed to win his heart. This woman must be

extraordinary if she could actually sleep with Lewis.

An hour had passed by the time Josephine stepped out of the bathroom.

She didn’t even know how she managed to get back to bed. She was so exhausted that she couldn’t

even lift a finger.

Josephine opened her eyes slightly and saw Lewis dressing in front of her.

Dazed, she saw him put on a dark sweater and leave without looking back. The bedroom door blocked

her view.

Josephine couldn’t hold on any longer and closed her eyelids heavily.

She hadn’t slept for long when the aching pain in her lower abdomen woke her.

Face turning pale, Josephine curled up in bed, and beads of cold sweat formed on her forehead.

This feeling was familiar. It was the same sensation she had when she had an abortion.

After a while, Josephine managed to gather her strength and struggled to get up from the bed.

Supporting herself on the wall, she unsteadily made her way downstairs.

She found some painkillers and trembled as she poured them into her palm. One pill was no longer

effective; she needed several.

Josephine was in so much pain that she was about to pass out. She stuffed all the painkillers from her

palm into her mouth and quickly ran to the faucet to gulp down the tap water.

Only then did she slide down to sit on the cold floor.

She glanced at the painkillers in her palm and smiled bitterly.

Josephine couldn’t help but wonder if Sierra would be happy if she died.

“What about Lewis? Would he be happy too?” she thought to herself.

Josephine closed her eyelids and weakly leaned against the kitchen floor, silently listening to the sound

of rain outside, and silently muttered, “What a heavy rain…”

The next day, Josephine woke up to find herself still lying on the floor. Lewis probably stayed out the

whole night.

She couldn’t quite remember what happened last night, only that her stomach was in pain. She took

some medication and somehow ended up lying on the floor, falling asleep.

Leaning on the kitchen counter, Josephine touched her lower abdomen, which still throbbed. slightly.

She ignored the pain and started making breakfast as usual.

After preparing breakfast and setting up the table, Josephine sat there for a while. When the clock

struck eight, she took a few bites of the food.

She then got changed, hailed a taxi, and went to the office. Upon arriving on the empty floor, she

seated herself and stared blankly at the computer screen.

Not long after, Conrad came and noticed her staring into the space without anything to do. He handed

her a few documents and said, “Mrs. Alvarez, if you are free, why don’t you key this into the computer?

Are you familiar with the form?”

Josephine looked up at him and nodded before taking the documents from him.

Noticing her pale face, Conrad hesitated for a moment before asking, “Mrs. Alvarez, are you feeling

unwell?”

Josephine blinked slightly and shook her head.

“Okay. I’ll get back to work then.”

Conrad turned around and left the office. He bumped into Lewis on his way out.

Quickly, he approached Lewis and said, “President Alvarez, should we take care of the news?”

Lewis halted his footsteps and glanced at him, asking, “What news?”

Right after saying that, he remembered. “Just ignore it.”

Conrad frowned in confusion. “But we won’t know how it might escalate if we ignore it. Someone is

obviously fanning the flames behind the scenes. It’s been only one day, and rumors about you and Ms.

Woods are spreading like wildfire.”

“Moreover, your identity has been completely exposed.”

Lewis stepped into the office and responded calmly, “Let them go ahead and fan the flames.”

Conrad continued, “If this matter gets out of control, it’s likely that your marriage will get exposed, and

Ms. Woods will probably face severe criticism.”
