Beth didn’t know what Natalie was planning, but instinctively she inched closer to where Sam loomed over her.
She moved so slowly, so carefully, that Sam didn’t notice. But it also meant that even though the distance
wasn't far, Beth still hadn't reached Sam's back by the teverything erupted.
When Natalie spoke about giving Sam a limitless future, Beth blinked in surprise and looked up at her-just in
tto see Natalie suddenly sit up straight.
In her hand, without anyone noticing when she had gotten it, was an awl.
Its surface was coated in something dark, making it impossible to tell what it was.
Before anyone could react, Natalie drove the awl straight into Sam’s neck.
The move was too fast, too sudden. Neither Beth nor Sam had tto process what had happened.
Sam only felt a flash before her eyes-Natalie sitting upright-and then the searing pain in her throat.
By the tshe realized blood was spilling from her neck and tried to cry out, Natalie's other hand clamped
down hard over her mouth and nose.
Sam thrashed wildly.
Blood gushed from her wound as her eyes bulged wide. She couldn't comprehend how Natalie was even moving,
or where that awl had cfrom.
Beth was stunned, her entire body stiff with shock and a trace of terror.
If she hadn't treated Natalie with a little kindness before, would she be the one meeting Sam's fate right now?
Natalie had an awl? How was that even possible?
Everyone brought here had been thoroughly searched. No one was ever allowed to sneak in even the smallest
piece of metal.
Yet Natalie had managed it.
Beth's throat went dry.

She stared as Natalie held Sam down, as blood spread thicker and thicker across her throat Beth swallowed hard,
as though it could force down her own fear.
Natalie had never killed anything in her life-not even a chicken.
But now, she had no choice but to fight for her survival.
Hot blood sprayed across her face, making her stomach churn with nausea. Even her hands shook as she
pressed down over Sam’s mouth.
But she knew-there was no retreat.
No turning back.
While Sam was distracted talking with Beth, Natalie had stabbed her own thigh with the awl, forcing her body to
jolt awake with just enough strength to move.
She had saved every ounce of strength for this single strike. When Sam leaned in close, she attacked without
warning.
It was her last chance.
But now Sam was still struggling, and Natalie's strength was nearly gone.
She snapped at Beth in a hoarse whisper.
“What are you waiting for? If she gets out, you're dead too! And if | die, I'll tell them it was you who madedo
this. You and your son will both be finished!”
Beth jolted back to her senses.
She was right.
Sam was Kasen'’s favored woman. If she managed to escape and speak a single word, Kasen would see Beth
dead without hesitation.
And if Beth died, her son had no hope either.
A flash of hatred crossed her eyes.
“Sam, you forced me! If you had givenand my son a way to live, I'd never be doing this to you.”
Sam's eyes turned bloodshot, filled with disbelief and rage. She thrashed harder, trying to make one last
desperate bid for freedom.

A fine white powder spilled out.
It was the antidote Baron had given her.
He had told her the powder could counter any toxin, that if she was ever drugged or restrained, it would save
her.
She had laughed at him then, calling him paranoid. But to ease his worries, she’d hidden it inside her manicure.
