The boy looked so thin; malnutrition was written all over his frail frame. His eyes were sunken, and something

about that hollow gaze tugged painfully at her heart.

She suddenly couldn’t bear to look any longer.

“Beth, if | manage to get out of here, would you cwith me?” she asked softly. “You could testify as a witness,

tell the police everything you know. | believe justice always finds its way, eventually. A ship like this—a place that

devours people alive-shouldn’t even exist in this world.”

Natalie hadn't planned to get involved in Beth's situation at all. If she hadn’t seen the photo of that child, she

never would have said something like this.

Beth froze, startled by Natalie's words.

“What did you say? You mean... takeaway from here?”

“I said if,” Natalie repeated calmly. “Beth, | believe my husband will find me; | believe he’ll cwith the police.

Whether I'm alive or dead, he’ll make sure this place is wiped clean. When that happens, everyone here will be

taken away.”

Her trust and faith in Baron were absolute.

Looking straight at Beth, Natalie said slowly, “Maybe that scumbag James lied to you; maybe you got dragged

into this against your will. But as long as you want to start over, it's never too late. I'll have my husband help

find your son’s whereabouts. But you need to tell the police everything you know. Do you promise?”

Beth didn’t understand where Natalie's confidence cfrom, but when she met her steady, resolute eyes, a

flicker of hope stirred inside her. Maybe this really is my way out.

“Are you serious?” Beth whispered. “If | beca witness, can | really start over?”

“You can. Even if you've done things you regret-even if you have to spend a few years in prison-once you're out,

you can live a new life. And if we find your son, I'll make sure he’s safe. I'll even take care of him for a few years

until you're released; then you can be reunited.”

Beth's eyes filled with tears.

“I thought I'd rot here for the rest of my life... I thought my son was doomed too. Natalie, if

Natalie blinked in surprise. So Beth had been holding something back.

That alone made Natalie certain she’d made the right choice.

“All right,” she said firmly. “I promise you.”

Beth studied her for a moment before asking, “Natalie, can | ask who you really are? From the way you talk-and

the way you carry yourself-you're definitely not just sordinary woman.”

Natalie only smiled, offering no reply. Seeing that, Beth didn’t press the question.

Instead, she looked down at her son’s photo and smiled-truly smiled-for the first tin a long while, the

warmth returning to her face. Natalie didn’t disturb her; her own mind was racing. When Baron comes, will he be

able to take on whoever’s behind this? And if not... Jensen will ctoo, right? Luke Corp is a public company,

and Jensen's status is complicated; maybe | can use that to our advantage. If only | had a phone right now.

She glanced at Beth and asked quietly, “Beth, do you have a phone? Something that can contact the outside?”

Beth hesitated this time; she didn’t immediately refuse. Natalie didn’t rush her, just waited silently.
