“Sure, Nigel, but only if you call me Aunt Tess as well like Maia and Errol do.”
Hearing this, Maia choked on her soda and spluttered.
Widening her eyes, she whispered to Tess who was sitting beside her. “Are you sure he wouldn’t
mind?”
Tess caught herself. “Now that you’ve mentioned it, it does come off as rude, doesn’t it?”
“Hey, I don’t mind at all. I’ve always treated you like my own aunt anyway,” Nigel said.
Tess laughed happily. “That settles it then.”
Maia frowned. “Well, I’m starving. Let’s eat.”
“Yes, yes. Time to chow down, everyone,” Tess said as she kept passing dishes to Nigel.
Keeping her head low, Maia ate quietly.
“Mala, pass Nigel the meatloaf.”
“Aunt Tess…” Maia was reluctant.
“It’s okay, Aunt Tess. I can reach it,” Nigel said and placed a chicken drumstick on Maia’s plate using a
pair of tongs. “Eat more, Maia. You’re too skinny.”
“Thanks, Nigel,” Maia said courteously and continued to eat quietly.

Tess kept the conversation going and said, “Nigel, you’re not getting younger. Haven’t you started to
see anyone?”
Hearing this, Maia quickly said, “What she meant is that she knows many nice girls out there that you
might be interested in.”
“I’m not talking about other girls, all right? I’m talking about Maia. She’s a wonderful girl, isn’t she?”
Tess said proudly.
Maia was exasperated. What the hell?
Errol tried hard not to laugh.
Wanting him to help, Maia gave him a pleading look. Errol, however, pouted, signaling that there was
nothing he could do.
Nigel laughed. “She’s a wonderful girl, alright.”
“Great!” Tess grew prouder. “Then what do you think of her?”

Letting out a helpless sigh, Maia pressed a button and opened the hallway door.
She entered a tree–lined path and headed toward the main gate. Suddenly, someone grabbed her and
pulled her toward the woods on the side.
Before she could scream, a hand gagged her mouth. Her eyes went wide as she saw who the
man was.
It was Cedric! She was right, after all. The car was his!
Maia angrily tried to push him off her. “Get your hands off me, Cedric!”
As there were wounds on his shoulder and back, Cedric grunted in pain.
However, he refused to let go as he trapped her between himself and a tree trunk.

go now, but stop wandering around, okay? Go upstairs and stay there.”
Although the security in the affluent area was good, he couldn’t bear any guys setting their eyes on her.
Moreover, Theo hadn’t been caught yet.
Holding her hand, Cedric led her toward the hallway.
“Let
go of me, Cedric!” Maia struggled in vain to break free.
As they reached the hallway, the door opened, and Nigel was stunned to see them.
