Chapter 1415

James even broke up with Esther. At that time, he couldn't act decently given his emotions.

Esther took a deep breath. She knew James realized he had made a mistake and wanted to fix it. But that

incident had left a mark on her, haunting her and refusing to fade away.

The craziest part was that this mark wouldn't just disappear, even if James, who was involved, was there.

There was also something else Esther couldn't accept, something she couldn't tell him...

Esther sniffled. "Yeah, I'm overwhelmed by that mess and can't shake it off. So, you don't need to keep bugging

me, considering the kind of person | am. Do you understand?"

James managed a weak smile. "So, when will you forgive me?"

"I'll never forgive you."

Since the car was parked by the side of the road, Esther unbuckled her seatbelt and stepped out. "I live close by.

I can walk from here. You don't need to drive me."

James didn't follow her. He just sat quietly in the car and watched her walk away until she was out of sight.

Esther hadn't expected James not to follow her. When he didn't, she felt both disappointed and relieved. He had

done exactly what she asked, after all.

It was a cold autumn night in Enswood. Esther rubbed her hands together for warmth as she walked.

Near the roadside, she noticed a drunk man staggering about. She knew that bumping into someone at night

usually didn't mean anything good. So, she tried to walk around him carefully.

Suddenly, the drunk man lunged at her, grabbing her wrist. His breath smelled strongly of alcohol, causing her to

frown in disgust.

"Hey, girl. You look pretty. What are you doing out here so late? And not wearing much, huh? Come, let's have

sfun together," he slurred, eyeing her up and down, which made Esther feel sick.

Trying to avoid trouble, Esther softened her voice and replied, "I'm sorry. I'm just going home. That house right

there is mine."

The man laughed scornfully and glanced at the large, elegant house behind them. "Girl, if you're going to lie, at

least make it believable. That's the Sanders' house. And you," he sneered, taking in her appearance, "with all

that makeup. You must be coming from a club. You think you're a Sanders? That's a joke!"

Esther had forgotten to remove her makeup after the shoot, leading to this

misunderstanding. Losing her patience, she retorted sharply, "Who do you think you are to judge me?"

She was no pushover. Her past experiences had made her softer but not weak.

The man's face reddened with anger from her rebuke. "You b*tch! How dare you disrespect

me? Do you know who | am? I'll teach you a lesson today!" he threatened, dragging her toward a nearby alley.

Despite his drunken state, he was surprisingly strong. Esther struggled to free herself, but her efforts were in

vain, and panic set in.

"James!" she cried out instinctively, though she doubted he would cafter the harsh words she had spoken to

him earlier. Despair overwhelmed her.
